Job Description
Job Purpose
To ensure the 24-hour operation of wastewater treatment plants or treatment modules to achieve compliant effluent discharge and sludge disposal in accordance with license conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure safe handling of chemical solutions in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Perform chemical dosing efficiently and cost-effectively to ensure compliance and optimal plant performance.
- Control and optimize variable costs through efficient operation of plant modules.
- Develop, document and implement contingency plans in line with the Incident Management Protocol (e.g. high inflows, flooding, power failures, industrial spillage, equipment failures).
- Compile daily, weekly and monthly reports on process performance, efficiency and compliance.
- Communicate process adjustments and plant performance to all subordinates on shift.
- Enforce compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations, and ERWAT safety policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
- National Diploma in Chemical Engineering/Water Care or equivalent NQF Level 6
- 1 – 2 years’ relevant experience, excluding In-Service Training
