UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH AFRICA DEPARTMENT: UNIVERSITY ESTATES DIRECTORATE: PROJECT MANAGEMENT CIVIL AND STRUCTURAL ENGINEER (P7) X 1 POSITION TWO (2) YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT (MUCKLENEUK CAMPUS) (REF: UEPM/_ENGINEER /P7/2023-ST/NV) UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH AFRICA To oversee the construction and design of existing buildings, improving the structural integrity of existing buildings and ensuring that Unisa’s physical infrastructure is safe and capable of withstanding the elements to which they will be exposed. This is a fixed-time position for the period of the specific project Minimum Requirements • Valid Driver’s License Qualification(s): • Minimum B.Tech., B.Sc. B.Eng. • Professionally registered with ECSA either Pr. Tech. or Pr. Eng. Experience: • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in structural of a large multi-purpose facility. Key Skills and Competencies: • Creative problem-solving and troubleshooting skills • Excellent critical thinking skills and a high level of numeracy • Good communication and interpersonal skills • Strong teamworking skills, with an ability to motivate others and to lead or manage teams and projects • Flexibility and an ability to compromise • Willingness to accept responsibility and make decisions • High level of attention to detail • Excellent customer care skills and good commercial awareness • Understanding of, and ability to work with, high-level computer technology. Duties and Responsibilities: • Preparing reports, designs, and drawings • Provide technical advice to the facilities department related to structural designs. • Obtaining planning and/or building regulations approvals • Ensure As-built drawings are acquired and retained after the project close handover • Liaising with relevant professional staff such as Architects and other professionals involved in maintenance and construction projects • Monitoring and inspecting work is undertaken by contractors • Administering professional services contracts where required • Managing projects for professional structural engineering services • Conduct inspections and provide reports on building structural issues • Develop and manage the sign of critical hold points as part of quality control on projects. • Inspecting properties to check building structural integrity. Assumption of duty: As soon as possible.
