- Experience

- Three years lecturing/ research experience in Human Resources Management
- Knowledge and skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and other computer programs
- Full proficiency in English is a prerequisite.

PART-TIME LAB TECHNICIAN (2023):

The Department of Architecture & Industrial Design requires the services of a part-time lab technician to manage its recently established MakerSpace and other facilities. Part-time lab technicians are remunerated using the official TUT hourly tariffs. All part-time appointments are limited to a maximum of 19 hours per week:
Working 5 days/week x 3.8 working hours/day x 40 weeks
Total working time = 760 hours
Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience: Have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Industrial Design, Architecture, Engineering, or any other related field, and a minimum of 1 year relevant work experience in a similar role.
Critical performance arrears:
As a part-time lab technician managing a MakerSpace workshop in the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design, your key performance areas will include the following:
1. Equipment management: You will be responsible for ensuring that all equipment and tools in the workshop are functioning properly and are well-maintained. You may need to order new equipment when needed, repair or replace broken equipment, and keep an inventory of all tools and supplies.
2. Health and Safety: You will ensure the workshop is a safe and healthy environment for all users. This includes ensuring all equipment and tools are used correctly, providing safety instructions and guidelines to students, maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the workspace, and enforcing safety protocols and regulations.
3. Access to venues: You will manage access to the workshop by coordinating with the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design and other relevant departments to ensure that students, faculty, and staff have the necessary permission to use the space and equipment.
4. Maintenance of building infrastructure: You will be responsible for the upkeep of the physical infrastructure of the building, such as maintaining the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, ensuring the proper functioning of plumbing and electrical systems, and coordinating with maintenance personnel for any necessary repairs.
5. Technical support: You will be expected to provide technical support and advice to students and faculty members who use the workshop and assist them with any technical issues.
6. Record keeping: You must keep records of equipment usage, maintenance activities, and other relevant information to ensure the workshop runs smoothly and efficiently.
7. Training and development: Set up training sessions for students and staff on safely and effectively using workshop equipment and tools.
Overall, your role as a part-time lab technician in managing a MakerSpace workshop will be critical to the success of the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design. By ensuring that the workshop is well-maintained, safe, and accessible, you will be enabling students and faculty members to innovate and create new designs and products.
Knowledge and skills
1. Technical Skills: A good understanding of the tools, equipment, and materials used in the workshop, as well as proficiency in relevant software and technology, is important. Familiarity with 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC machines may also be useful.
2. Safety and Regulations: Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to the workshop equipment and materials, such as chemical handling, electrical safety, and personal protective equipment (PPE), is essential.
3. Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Effective communication skills, including the ability to provide technical support and training to students and faculty members, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people, are important.
4. Organizational and administrative skills, including record-keeping, inventory management, and scheduling, are necessary for this role.
5. Problem-solving Skills: The ability to troubleshoot technical problems and find solutions quickly and efficiently is also important.
