Job Title - Ethics Officer (L4)
(Position based in Pretoria, NPC)
Reports to - Ethics Officer (L4)
Summation
Support the Compliance Officer in an efficient and professional manner in establishing and maintaining an efficient ethics environment and carry out all reasonable instructions issued by the Compliance Officer or his nominee in line with the Group Compliance function.
Key Responsibilities
• Development, enhancement and implementation of a proactive ethics program.
• Provide advice to board members, senior management and staff in complex problem-solving situations related to ethics and/or potential conflicts of interest.
• Develop and maintain confidential procedures for the handling and processing of complaints and allegations. Provide processes for the confidential hearing of employee issues related to the ethics or conflicts, including hotline calls.
• Conducts regular assessments of ethical risks, and designs and executes risk management and mitigation strategies
• Induct board members and staff on ethical standards set by policies
• Promptly conduct investigations pursuant to complaints and allegations of ethical wrongdoing or conflicts of interest. Prepare written investigative reports as necessary.
• Track and review filings by staff of required disclosure forms.
• Report ethics-related violations by staff or management.
• Draft or assist in the drafting of the Bank’s Code of Ethics & Conflicts of Interest policies.
• Integrate the corporate ethics message throughout the corporate culture.
• Oversee the development and implementation of corporate ethics, anti-corruption and conflict-of interest training and conduct ethical decision-making training on ethics issues and how to avoid conflicts of interest.
• Promote (a) use of the ethics hotline; (b) heightened awareness of the Code of Ethics and Anti-Corruption Policies.
Minimum Requirements
• Minimum of a relevant Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (NQF Level 7) in Law / Commerce or related field
• Certified Ethics Officer; as certified by the Ethics Institute of South Africa Years of experience
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in ethics, risk / governance environment of large organisation.
Knowledge and understanding of:
• Governance of Ethics Framework Applicable statutory and regulatory requirements including but not limited to Public Finance Management Act, Banks Act, King II and III Report, Treasury Best Practices, Treasury Policies, Procedures and Limits, OHS Act, ECT Act, LRA & HR Policies, FICA, etc.
• Sound management information reporting
• Concept of customer satisfaction
• Strategy development, deployment, planning and communications
• Project management (principles, practices, techniques and tools)
• Organisational development, management techniques and good business practices
• Financial Management
• Value Chain Management
• Risk and Compliance management
Skills and Attributes
Conflict resolution and/or mediation skills Influencing and Negotiation skills, Advanced verbal and written communication, presentation and selling skills, Conceptualisation and integration skills, Decision making skills, Change management.
