ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: REGIONAL COORDINATION (CAPE TOWN)

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) requires enthusiastic, motivated individual to manage the strategic projects and operational component of the Groen Sebenza Programme in Western Cape Region to ensure for achievement of Groen Sebenza Programme strategic goals.
This position requires the candidate to be in possession of a degree in Natural Sciences, Public Administration, Business Management, or relevant field or equivalent qualification with NQF 7. A postgraduate qualification at NQF 8 will be an added advantage, as would a module/short course/certificate in project management. This position also requires 6 years’ experience in a relevant field, at least 3 years of which should be in project administration or as a project officer.
The successful candidate must have the following competencies: comprehensive knowledge and experience in project management; proven ability to work and nurture partnerships; advanced experience in conflict resolution and management; excellent communication and presentation skills; demonstrate ability to plan, procure and manage budget as per PFMA requirements; experience in administering or managing Labour Intensive Projects or Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) will be highly advantageous; good spoken and written command of English; proficiency in MS Office Package; valid drivers license with at least two years driving experience; work independently with limited supervision; perform under pressure; adhere to stringent deadlines and compliance regimen and be willing to travel.

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to render effective and efficient secretarial, office management and administrative support services.
This position requires a national diploma in Office Management, Public Administration or equivalent qualification at NQF 6 with 4 years of work experience in the relevant field or a degree in Office Management, Public Administration or equivalent qualification at NQF 7 with 2 years of work experience in the relevant field. Postgraduate qualification in Office Management, Public Administration or equivalent qualification with NQF 8 will be an added advantage.
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: extensive knowledge of legislation, policies, procedures, processes, practices, systems, and frameworks related to office administration, procurement, logistics, project and event management is essential; strict adherence to policies, procedures, processes, governance, compliance and confidentiality will be advantageous; in-depth knowledge of Public Finance Management Act, and Treasury Regulations is essential; advanced planning, organizing, and problem solving skills; excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook). The candidate must have a valid (unendorsed) Code B driver’s license and willingness to travel is required.
Key performance responsibilities include:
- Coordinate the procurement and claims for the division;
- Coordinate travel arrangements for the division;
- Provide meeting and workshop preparation for the division;
- Perform office administration duties; and
- Ensure effective utilisation of the filing system management.

ESTATE MANAGER, GRADE 5

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to manage the estate, facility and support service functions of the garden like the buildings, workshop, machinery and fleet management.
This position requires an advanced diploma or degree in Nature Conservation, or equivalent and relevant qualification at NQF 7. A relevant postgraduate degree at NQF level 8 or equivalent qualification will be an added advantage. This position also requires a minimum of 6 years’ working experience in Conservation, Estate and Facility Management in an eco-tourism environment.
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: experience/exposure to tourism, nature based tourism, management, urban conservation, wildland fires; understanding of national and global biodiversity conservation, alien invasive control; knowledge of legislation pertaining to biodiversity conservation; knowledge of the management of organisational finance; project management knowledge and skills; and knowledge of Government Human Resources, procurement and financial management policies. The candidate must be in possession of a valid driver’s licence and must be willing to travel.
