​Walter Sisulu University is a multi-campus, comprehensive university, with its seat at its Nelson Mandela Drive campus in Mthatha. DEPARTMENT OF NURSING SCIENCES
SENIOR LECTURER: NURSING-P7 PERMANENT
REFERENCE NO: WSU MTHFMHS-INT 2025/7
 
Qualification:
• Doctoral Degree or PhD in Nursing or Health Sciences
• Masters degree in Nursing
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) in Nursing Education
• Registration with SANC as nurse specialist (SANC regulated specialty programmes)
• An NQF level 8 qualification in Nursing Administration/Health Services Management will be an added advantage.
 
Experience:
• Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience at an institution of higher learning.
• Evidence of at least five (5) research output units in the previous five (5) years produced (i.e., already published) since the last promotion or appointment in DHET accredited journals. Or
• Evidence of at least three (3) research output units in the previous three (3) years produced (i.e., already published) since the last promotion or appointment in DHET accredited journals.
• Evidence or proven track record of completed successful supervision at the level of Honours or equivalent.
• Proof of involvement in community engagement projects/activities.
• High academic and professional standing.
 
Key Performance Areas:
● Prepare and deliver lectures to, and assess, both undergraduate and post graduate students.
● Prepare and regularly update curriculums and course material for lectures in accordance with SAQA, CHE, and DHET requirements and maintain quality assurance.
● Coordinate all student programmes within the department as per required standard operating requirements.
● Participate in departmental activities as required, including research, continuous professional development, Community engagement, partnerships, and collaboration strengthening.
• Contribution to teaching and learning, research, as well as community engagement strategy.
• Contribute towards Faculty and Departmental research initiates.
• Contribution to curriculum design and development of under to postgraduate programmes.
• Contribute to Academic citizenship and provide Faculty and University service.
• Assist with Academic administration and Quality Assurance initiatives.
• Contribute to envisaged students graduate attributes.
• Coordinate departmental membership in professional bodies.
• Ability to initiate action and operational research on clinical platform.
• Supervise postgraduate students.
• Act as external examiner for postgraduate dissertation/ thesis.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OR PROFESSOR: NURSING (P6/5) PERMANENT

Minimum Requirements for Associate Professor:
Qualifications:
• PhD in Nursing or Health Sciences
• Masters in Nursing
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) in Nursing Education
• Registration with SANC as nurse specialist (SANC regulated specialty programmes)
• An NQF level 8 qualification in Nursing Administration/Health Services Management will be an added advantage.
 
Experience:
• Minimum 8 years of lecturing experience in a university (tertiary level) in the field of Nursing with proven experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• A minimum of six (6) research output units obtained in the previous five (5) years in DHET-accredited journals.
• NRF C rating will be a strong advantage or
• Evidence of sustained publication record and ability to apply for NRF rating within the next cycle of applications.
• Evidence of successfully completed Masters research supervision
• Evidence of successfully completed doctoral supervision will be added advantage.
• Evidence of community engagement initiatives at local and regional levels.
• Proven track record of securing research grants to support academic and research initiatives.
• Evidence of curriculum development involvement.
• Evidence of academic leadership roles previously held.

• Minimum of 10 years lecturing experience in a university (tertiary level) in the field of Nursing.
• A minimum of seven (7) research output units obtained in the previous five (5) years in DHET-accredited journals.
• Proof of successfully completed Doctoral research supervision.
• NRF C rating.
• Evidence of community engagement initiatives at local and regional levels.
• Evidence of research grant funding for academic projects.
• Evidence of curriculum development involvement.
• Evidence of academic leadership roles previously held.

• Overall Departmental Strategy development and execution
• Undertake research and supervise postgraduate research projects.
• Mentor junior academics and emerging researchers in CE projects and/or proof of mentor them in research and/or teaching duties.
• Initiate and oversee community engagement projects, partnerships, and collaboration and initiate short learning programs.
• Publish results of Community Engagement projects
• Lead and manage Curriculum/ programme development and quality assurance in the discipline and the department, faculty and institutionally.
• Serve as external moderator and examiner of Master and Doctoral research projects nationally and internationally.
• Supervision or co-supervision of higher degree students i.e. master’s and PhD students
