BACKGROUND:
The Vice Chancellor & Principal, Prof Khehla Ndlovu is seeking like-minded professionals keen to contribute to the strategic direction and turnaround of VUT. Therefore, the incumbent should provide leadership and strategic oversight as follows:
a) As a member of the Executive Management, the Registrar provides effective and ethical leadership to the University. Inter alia this requires contributing meaningfully to strategy setting, the implementation thereof, and the development of a long-range vision for the University.
b) As secretary to the Council, Senate and Convocation, the Registrar provides the services necessary for them to fulfil their statutory mandate and governance roles. The Registrar’s role as statutory secretary is to advise and guide these governing structures on corporate governance, legal requirements and their statutory mandates. Inter alia this requires the Registrar to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations and adherence to principles of good governance.
c) Provides strategic leadership for the University’s Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM) and academic administration, and in this role is accountable and has overall responsibility for the value chain of academic administration, the student record, certification, and all systems that support student recruitment, admission, registration and examination. This requires the Registrar to ensure the integrity of the VUT qualifications. Information and records.
d) Accountable and has overall responsibility for all student judicial matters across the University. In addition, the Registrar plans, organises, directs, controls, reviews and oversees the interpretation and implementation of VUT policies and legislation.
e) Supports the University’s executive officers (the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor and CFO), Deans, Executive Directors and Heads of Departments, and provides leadership in the academic administration of the University and contributes advice across a wide range of internal structures.
f) As a member of the executive of the University, the incumbent will actively support the Vice-Chancellor (VC) and Principal in the strategic leadership and management of the University and in supervising academic and administrative functions through line reports. Although each Executive is appointed in the first instance to oversee particular functions, these may change over the course of time at the VC’s discretion.

- A master’s degree or NQF Level 9 equivalent qualification.
 
Required Experience:
- Ten years of relevant experience in a related environment within a tertiary institution, of which five years should have been in a senior management role.
- A very strong understanding of the higher education policy landscape nationally and internationally.
- Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting student access and success.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate governance issues within academia.
- Experience in addressing manifestations of inequality and supporting transformation within the higher education environment.
- Knowledge of the use of at least one proprietary and open-source learning management system.

- A PhD or postgraduate/graduate studies in corporate governance or law will be an added advantage.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
 
Key performance areas include, but are not limited to:
• Lecturing of modules in the discipline, from Diploma to PGD level.
• Teaching in all disciplines in electrical engineering from Diploma to Master’s level (Senior Lecturer).
• Supervision of post-graduate research qualifications up to master’s level.
• Research productivity (such as journal articles, book chapters, and patents) in the chosen fields of electrical engineering.
• Also serve in various administrative committees in the Department.
• Contributing to curriculum development
• Contributing to quality assurance in the department and programmes.
• Creating and maintaining collaborative relationships with the industry.
• Willingness to undergo short courses for professional development
 
APPLICATION CRITERIA:
 
Qualification:
• Master of Engineering Electrical: Process Control Engineering
• First degree must be in Process Control (NQF Level 7)
 
Experience:
• A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience after a Master's level in an institute of higher education, OR five (5) years of professional industrial experience.
 
Skills & Criteria:
• Deep disciplinary expertise in either Process Control Systems, Instrumentation or Industrial Automation.
• Proven research ability, with publications or industrial innovation in process control or embedded systems.
• Strong experience with Engineering Software Packages, especially:
  • MATLAB/Simulink (modelling and control simulation)
  • LabVIEW, PLC programming platforms
  • Must be working on SCADA/DCS.
• Problem-solving and critical thinking Skills.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, especially in interpreting, designing, and improving control strategies, feedback systems, and signal processing applications.
• Understanding of ECSA Accreditation Requirements, Familiarity with Graduate Attributes (GAs), Programme Outcomes (POs), and the ECSA accreditation process for engineering qualifications, Curriculum and Assessment Literacy, Ability to interpret course outcomes, assessments, rubrics, moderation reports, and link them to ECSA’s criteria.
 
NB: Candidates must be willing to work only during normal working hours.
