JOB DESCRIPTION:
Key performance areas include but are not limited to:
• Academic leadership: Develop and review course materials; teach and assess students at the Foundation level; prepare a teaching and learning portfolio as evidence of compliance with standards; participate in departmental management tasks delegated by the Head of Department; and report on achievements in the Performance Management Contract (PMC).
• Curriculum development: Develop and improve the curriculum content of the Civil Engineering qualification programs in line with the industry trends and the Higher Education Qualification Sub-Framework (HEQSF).
• Industry engagement: Build and maintain relationships with industry; undertake consultation work; and engage in collaborative research.
• Leadership and administration: Manage the full assessment chain for assigned subjects; identify appropriate moderators in line with University policy; and determine student promotion criteria and standards in accordance with University policies, guidelines and timelines.
• Student and academic administration: Carry out student support duties; perform academic administration tasks; and produce reports as required.
• Internal processes: Actively participate in departmental, faculty, and institutional initiatives. 
 
APPLICATION CRITERIA:
Qualification:
• MEng/MSc in Civil Engineering
• First Degree in Civil Engineering (NQF Level 7)
 
Experience:
• A minimum of two years’ relevant experience in teaching, industry, or professional practice.
• Demonstrated success in curriculum development and academic management.
• Evidence of active participation in professional, industry, and/or community activities.
• Knowledge of, and experience in, implementing quality assurance requirements.
• Registration with a relevant professional body (ECSA).
• Industry or professional practice experience will be an advantage.
• Specialisation in structural engineering will be an added advantage.
 
Skills:
• Engineering competence; knowledge of quality control and maintenance procedures; strong management skills and professional judgement demonstrated in workplace application; a high level of disciplinary expertise and proven research ability; excellent communication skills, including report writing and verbal presentation; computer literacy (MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, ITS); good interpersonal skills, including collegiality, teamwork, and time management; strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
