JOB DESCRIPTION: Lecturer Graphic Design
 
 Key Performance Areas include but not limited to: 
  • Academic leadership – Develop and review course materials, teach and assess students at undergraduate/postgraduate levels, prepare teaching and learning portfolio as evidence of compliance to standards, and take part in department management tasks delegated by the HOD and report on achievement in PMC. 
  • Willing to register for PhD 
  • Research – propose and design research concept notes and concept maps for post-graduate research in field of specialisation in the department, undertake post graduate supervision and examination, research and publish accredited research outputs. 
  • Develop curriculum in applicable field of specialisation - influence the development, maintenance and control of curriculum in field of specialisation. 
  • Industry relationship building and external engagement – Liaise with industry including consultation work, project proposals and collaborative research projects. 
  • Community engagement – Develop community engagement project contents and study guides and take part in the implementation, participate in community flagship programme/projects. 
  • Leadership, university administration and enhancement aspects 
  • Internal process – Conduct ad-hoc duties as assigned by the line-manager.

Qualification and Experience: 
Lecturer:
 
Minimum requirements: 
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (such as Graphic Design, Information Design, Multimedia, Communication Design, Visual Communication) 
  • Minimum 2 years experience of teaching and assessment in higher education in a Graphic Design department and working experience in the Graphic Design Industry 
  • In-depth and current graphic design skills, including knowledge of hard- and software appropriate to the Graphic Design Industry 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and administrative skills 
  • Evidence of academic management 
  • Evidence of active participation in professional, industry and/or community activities 
  • Knowledge and experience of implementing quality assurance requirements 
 
Added advantage: 
  • Registration with a professional body is an added advantage 
  • Industry or practise experience is a recommendation. 
  • Further appropriate qualifications in the field of study, higher education and research training are strongly recommended 
 
Recommendations: 
  • Team player and Self-motivated 
  • Evidence of ongoing research and publication in the field of graphic design 
  • Strong creative portfolio showing a range of work 
  • (All shortlisted applicants will be required to present a portfolio of graphic design work) 
  • Knowledge of usage of LMS (Blackboard) and blended learning modalities 
 
Job description: 
  • Teaching and assessment of students in the Graphic Design section in both practical and theoretical subjects across all levels (POS), the use of hard- and software appropriate to the Graphic Design Industry including but not limited to Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) software 
  • Contributing research and/or creative production in line with University requirements  
 
Skills and Competencies: 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, excellent teaching skills, planning and organising skills, conceptual skills, analytical ability, interpersonal skills and problem solving skills. 
  • Sharing in Departmental and Faculty administrative tasks

JOB DESCRIPTION:
 
Key Performance Areas include but are not limited to: 
Management of the Technology Transfer Office 
• Develop and implement the Technology Transfer Office strategy in line with the portfolio and organisational strategy. 
• Perform day-to-day line management of the Technology Transfer Office. 
• Develop and implement systems, processes, and procedures to ensure the smooth operation and functioning of the Technology Transfer Office. 
• Manage human, financial, and physical resources of the Technology Transfer Office. 
• Acquire and manage funding for the capacitation and operations of the Technology Transfer Office. 
 
Innovation Management 
• Drive efforts to increase the University’s Intellectual Property and Innovation portfolio. 
• Put measures in place to ensure adequate IP protection and prosecution. 
• Put measures in place to support niche areas of Applied Research as well as Research Centres for Intellectual Property and Innovation generation. 
• Develop and implement strategies to foster open innovation within the University. 
 
Commercialisation Management 
• Put measures in place to ensure appropriate commercialisation of the University’s Intellectual Property and Innovation Portfolio. 
• Drive the creation of university spinouts. 
• Provide innovation and commercialisation support to the university community to foster innovative entrepreneurship. 
• Ensure adequate support and incubation of existing and newly created university spinouts. 
 
Collaborations Management 
• Put measures in place to ensure that all research contracts recognise and protect the university’s intellectual property and innovation interests. 
• Facilitate linkages with local and international industries within the context of national priorities and the university’s strategy. 
• Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders for collaborative Intellectual Property and Innovation generation and commercialisation. 
 
Compliance
• Put measures in place to ensure invention disclosures. 
• Ensure regular compliance by the Technology Transfer Office with the IPR Act. 
• Ensure regular reporting of the Technology Transfer Office activities to NIPMO in line with the IPR Act. 
• Conduct ad-hoc duties as assigned by the line manager from time to time. 
 
 
APPLICATION CRITERIA:
 
 Qualification and Experience: 
Minimum Requirements: 
• A relevant Master’s degree in the areas of Innovation Management or Business Management. MBA/MBL will be an added advantage. 
• Minimum of five (5) years of management experience, two (2) of which must have been at a Senior level. 
• Proven knowledge of Intellectual Property Management and Commercialisation. 
 
 
• Proven knowledge of strategic planning and implementation. 
• Experience in the establishment and support of new businesses/SMMEs in South Africa. 
• Knowledge of research contracts vetting 
 
Desired experience: 
• Proven commercialisation or commercial experience 
• Proven experience in policy development and implementation. 
• Proven experience in the South African policy landscape relating to research, innovation systems, science and technology, and intellectual property commercialisation 
 
Skills and Competencies: 
• Excellent communication (verbal and written), relationship building, strong team building, problem-solving, strategic and operational direction setting, entrepreneurial, project management, people management, and liaison skills 
• Ability to apply discretion and latitude. 
• Ability to identify projects with commercial potential. 
• Broad grasp of technical and technological concepts.
