The Faculty of Arts and Humanities offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate learning programmes with wide-ranging, diverse and interdisciplinary approaches.
The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies is one of the most productive departments in the Faculty: Our undergraduate courses equip students to draw critically and insightfully on theoretical and methodological tools for analysing gender and sexuality in rapidly changing national and global contexts and, at third-year level, prepare students with the research, conceptual and writing skills required for postgraduate interdisciplinary studies of gender and sexuality. The Department supervises a range of postgraduate students at the Honours, Masters and PhD level, and also offers Honours and Masters degrees through coursework. The Department is research-intensive, has driven several externally funded research projects and staff publications are often cited by other academics and postgraduates.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Conduct research and publish in reputable scholarly outlets.
- Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision.
- Provide leadership within the department, as well as academic leadership and administration.
- Undertake curriculum development and assessment.
- Participate in community engagement and outreach programmes
Minimum Requirements
- PhD that is directly relevant to Women’s and Gender Studies.
- 3-5 years teaching experience
- A record of quality peer reviewed publications in the field of Women’s and Gender Studies - at least 4 articles in accredited journals and/or books published in reputable presses, or equivalent recognised outputs.
- A record of successful postgraduate supervision – at least two (2) Master’s students graduated.
- Evidence of the integration of community engagement with learning and teaching and/or research.
Recommendation/Added Advantage
- A record of both local and international academic conference presentations.
- Evidence of expertise, national standing, and an international presence in their field of research.
- Evidence of the integration of community engagement for societal impact with learning and teaching and/or research.
- Evidence of ability to or interest in obtaining research grants.

- Machining of metal, wood and plastic (the incumbent would need to make products out of metal, wood and plastic)
- Accurate operation of the milling machine and lathe and other high speed precision machines
- Maintenance of lecture seating structures and related work (especially welding seating structures)
- Welding work
- Manufacturing and repairs of research equipment (general campus, manufacturing & repair requests for specialised design work)
- Consulting with job requesters
- Design of instruments for research purpose
- Ensure adherence to Health and safety compliance
- Housekeeping by ensuring that the workshop is clean and orderly at all times
- Assumption of all duties and responsibilities in the absence of the section head
Minimum Requirements
- A recognized relevant trade certificate (Toolmaker or Fitter & Turner)
- 3 years relevant experience, with 2 years supervisory experience
- Valid driver’s license code (with two years driving experience)

- Basic computer literacy in MS-Word and Excel
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in the use of Toolmaking tools and equipment.
- Ability to handle emergency situations with skill and care.
- Working knowledge of building management systems.

Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas
The Infrastructure and Engineering Department plays a pivotal role in the maintenance and improvement of the University’s infrastructure. Applications are invited for dynamic, motivated individuals with general building technical skills and knowledge who will be reporting to the Foreman, to assist with maintenance, general facilities management, and administration.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Administrative:
- Maintain relevant and up-to-date records of all precinct requirements
- Maintain a drawing and specification register
- Maintain asset inventory
- Log utilities of building and tenants
- General administrative assistance to the Precinct Manager
- Raise and close Job Cards
- General maintenance/handyman function to quickly analyse and solve maintenance issues
- Communicate effectively with Precinct Manager and the stakeholder community to ensure optimal building performance
- Source parts, spares, and services.
- Coordinate and monitor outsourced services
- Conduct regular inspections, and report on building services: electrical, plumbing and drainage, wet fire, compressed air lines, vacuum lines, smoke extraction systems, gas suppression systems, lifts, plant rooms, pumps, fire equipment, storage tanks, UPS, generator, etc.
- Report on snags, issues and items affecting building condition and performance
- Conduct weekly utility meter readings
- Update building log book
- Assist the Precinct Manager to investigate and keep up to date with new products and technology which can assist the organisation to reduce costs and improve service
- Ensure employees, buildings and equipment meet the relevant safety requirements in terms of the OHS Act and any other relevant regulations
Minimum Requirements
- Matric (Senior Certificate)
- 2 years' experience in general maintenance (Electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and building maintenance experience, including experience with hand and power tools)
- A valid driver’s license (code EB) – with two years driving experience
Skills and Competencies
- Computer literacy
- Ability to work without supervision
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Good knowledge of health & safety requirements in the workplace
- A practical assessment will be conducted with all shortlisted candidates.

The Artisan Locksmith is responsible for providing specialized locksmith services, including the installation, maintenance, and repair of locks, keys, and security systems. They are highly skilled tradespeople who understand the complexities of various locking mechanisms, and they work to ensure the safety and security of clients.
Reporting to the Manager: Maintenance, the appointee’s duties will include, but not be limited to the below tasks:
- Lock Installation and Repair:
- Install, repair, and replace locks.
- Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning locks and security devices.
- Provide expertise in the repair and rekeying of traditional locks and modern keyless systems.
- Key Cutting and Duplication:
- Accurately cut and duplicate keys for customers based on specifications or original keys.
- Create specialized keys for high-security locks.
- Emergency Lockout Services:
- Respond to emergency lockout situations.
- Safely and efficiently unlock doors, or vehicles without causing damage.
- Customer Service:
- Provide professional, friendly, and timely service to clients.
- Inventory Management:
- Manage inventory of locks, keys, and security-related equipment.
- Ensure that tools and materials are in good working condition.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with local laws, regulations, and industry standards related to locksmithing and security systems.
- Adhere to safety protocols during the installation, repair, and maintenance processes.
Minimum Requirements

- Relevant Trade certificate
- 3 years’ relevant experience, with 2 years supervisory experience
- A valid drivers’ license (2 years driving experience)
- Valid Psira registered (If not currently in possession, will need to be in the process of acquiring certification within 6 months).
