Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas
The Department of Educational Studies invites applications from suitably qualified applicants for the post of Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer in Curriculum Studies: Teacher Education or a related field. The successful candidate must be able to provide intellectual and administrative leadership in the Department, and actively contribute to research and teaching in Curriculum Studies in our teacher education programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The incumbent will also be expected to mentor staff in teaching and research, participate in community engagement projects, and serve on relevant Departmental and Faculty committees.
 
The Faculty of Education has a rich history of engaging with the key issues facing South African education, and offers innovative, research-based teacher education programmes and excellent postgraduate degree programmes in education. The Department of Educational Studies offers courses in the social and historical foundations of education practice. Our teaching and research interests cut across the interdisciplinary fields of history and philosophy of education, curriculum studies, sociology of education and education policy studies, educational leadership and management, comparative education and research methodology. We aim to strengthen the teaching profession by building vibrant relationships with schools and educational support initiatives, and educating our students to become excellent teachers, critical scholars, and reflective practitioners of change in South African education.
 
Minimum Requirements


For the post of Associate Professor the following criteria shall apply:
  • A relevant PhD associated with Curriculum Studies: Teacher Education or a related field (like Mathematics Education, Language Education, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • A strong research and academic publications record relevant to curriculum studies and/or teacher education 
  • An excellent record of successful postgraduate supervision 
  • Experience in curriculum development and transformation 
  • Experience in leading or participating in and securing research funding for large‐scale research projects 
 
For the post of Senior Lecturer the following criteria shall apply:
  • A relevant PhD associated with Curriculum Studies: Teacher Education or a related field (like Mathematics Education, Language Education, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • A good research and academic publications record (comprising relevant peer reviewed accredited journal articles, books or book chapters in reputable publications) 
  • A record of successful postgraduate supervision 
  • Experience in curriculum development and transformation 
  • Experience in Teaching practice and teacher development 
 
Recommendation for appointment at the level of Associate Professor (in addition to the above minimum requirements):
  • An NRF rating is a strong recommendation
  • Experience in Teaching Practice and teacher development

The primary role of the Library Assistant is to support library learning, teaching and research activities, particularly those related to open science, virtual reference and online user services.
 
The successful incumbent will be responsible for: 
  • Perform library clientele duties i.e. Circulation; Short loans; ILL etc.
  • Basic catalogue & databases searches
  • Provide support to research services i.e. RDM
  • Perform virtual & in-person reference services
  • Collection development and maintenance
  • Assist and participate in Library marketing and other projects.

Minimum Requirements (Qualification and Experience): 
  • Grade 12 certificate at NQF Level 4 plus two years’ working experience in an academic library setting
OR
  • A B. BLIS Degree or equivalent qualification
AND
  • Experience working with cloud storage & sharing applications

Required competencies (skills, knowledge and behavioural attributes): 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrable knowledge of library management system
  • Sound understanding of library operations
  • Exposure to open science activities i.e. RDM
  • Knowledge of library systems - catalogue and databases
  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently
  • Experience working with cloud storage & sharing applications
  • Attention to detail
  • Customer oriented

SENIOR LIBRARY ASSISTANT: RESEARCH SUPPORT & SCHOLARLY COMMUNICATIONS

Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas
We are seeking the services of a self-motivated and proactive Senior Library Assistant to work collaboratively in a team, to service Research Support & Scholarly Communications. The role provides second level support for tasks related to research data management, digital scholarship and research support to the University community.  

Main duties and responsibilities will include: 
  • User Services (Circulation; Short-loans; ILL & Reference) 
  • Assist with research data management activities 
  • Upload UWC research outputs and ETDs into the repositories 
  • Participate in research support activities and training programmes 
  • Compile reports and perform other functions under the designated manager/s 
 
Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements (Qualification and Experience)
  • Matric and five years’ relevant experience in an academic or comparable environment OR 
  • B. BLIS Degree or equivalent qualification and one year’s relevant work experience. PLUS 
  • Working knowledge and understanding of research data management 
 
Added advantage: Some experience in conducting face-to-face as well as online training
 
Required competencies (skills, knowledge and behavioural attributes): 
  • Knowledge of library management systems
  • Working knowledge of Figshare, DSpace and OJS
  • Working knowledge of online reference system
  • Planning and organisation
  • Good presentation and communication skills
