Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas
Student Development and Support (SDS) plays a leading role in creating a holistic, facilitative co-curricular environment and excellent opportunities for students to develop their full potential as responsible and responsive citizens. The Centre for Student Support Services (CSSS) provides broad student-centred development support interventions to registered students. Its professional services, multi-faceted programs, training opportunities and resources are aimed at co-creating possibilities through a dynamic, supportive environment which enhances the student experience, learning, growth and success.
The incumbent will be expected to:
- Coordinate and deliver all administrative and operational requirements of the Office for Academic Support programmes
- Develop and create innovative learning support resources for departmental offerings and initiatives
- Coordinate and maintain digital platforms for learning programmes
- Coordinate and provide programme awareness, recruitment and selection efforts, as well as training and facilitation in line with departmental goals
- Coordinate and oversee monitoring and evaluation of relevant projects and programmes
- Provide regular, ongoing progress reports, as well as written operational and evaluation reports
- Collaborate with relevant internal and external stakeholders to enhance academic skills enablers initiatives for students
- Engage actively in relevant research
- Provide academic coaching sessions to students in the form of one-on-one sessions
- Support the Manager and Director with broader operational and strategic matters where required
- Must be prepared to work over weekends where required
- Postgraduate qualification in Education, Social Science or a relevant qualification at NQF Level 8
- With 3 to 5 years relevant work experience in facilitation and coaching in Higher Education
Core Experience:
- An understanding of relevant theories pertaining to student academic outcomes
- Demonstrated experience in the development and design of learning programmes
- Demonstrated experience in the use of data to inform the design of learning programmes/enablers
- Demonstrated experience in Group Facilitation
Advantageous
- Experience within student academic and learning skills
- Familiarity with working in an academic environment within the context of Higher Education
- Experience interpreting data analytics
- Practical knowledge of Coaching Modalities and Neurological Learning Theories

We invite applications from dynamic and vibrant individuals for the position of Placement Officer within our Residential Services Department. This is an exciting opportunity for a client-service oriented professional with student housing experience in a tertiary education environment, who demonstrates a commitment to continuous self-improvement and development.
The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting our organizational strategies regarding student co-curricular development and well-being, while playing a pivotal role in the efficient operation of our student accommodation services.
Primary Functions:
- Execute comprehensive application, admission, and billing administration for students entering residence on a cyclical basis
- Provide dedicated support and assistance to the Placement Coordinator in all operational matters
- Monitor accommodation spaces, vacancy tracking, and waiting list management
- Coordinate room allocations, transfers, and optimize residence capacity utilization
- Manage seasonal accommodation cycles and peak
- Coordinate all administrative functions related to student withdrawals, cancellations, and replacement offers
- Ensure comprehensive communication protocols and systematic follow-up procedures
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records across all operational areas
- Provide detailed reports and monitor feedback received from students and stakeholders
- Resolve audit queries related to housing and billing with precision and timeliness
- Ensure accurate reconciliation of student accounts and general ledger entries
- Monitor and adjust income forecasts on a monthly basis
- Maintain current updates on residence management software systems
- Effectively and professionally advise students and stakeholders on all processes related to:
- Residence admissions procedures
- Application cycles and deadlines
- Student housing processes and policies
- Accommodation options and requirements
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Criteria (Qualifications and Experience)
• A Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7)
• 3 to 5 years of relevant experience
• Minimum 2 years' experience specifically in Student Housing Placement Administration
