The Faculty of Education has a rich history of engaging with key issues facing South African education, and offers innovative, research‐based teacher education programmes and excellent postgraduate degree programmes in education. Our teaching and research interests in the Department of Educational Psychology cut across the interdisciplinary fields of Educational Psychology, inclusive education, life orientation, sociology of education, education policy studies and research methodology. We aim to strengthen the teaching profession by building vibrant relationships with schools and educational support initiatives, and educating our students to become excellent teachers, critical scholars, and reflective practitioners of change in South African education.
The Department of Educational Psychology invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Educational Psychology.
 
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:
  • Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Educational Psychology or Inclusive Education
  • Conduct research and publish in Educational Psychology or Inclusive Education
  • Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision 
  • Provide academic leadership 
  • Undertake curriculum development and assessment 
  • Undertake community engagement and outreach projects
  • Contribute to academic and administrative leadership in the Department 
  • Serve on relevant Departmental and Faculty committees
 
Minimum Requirements

Requirements at a level of Senior Lecturer
  • A relevant PhD, preferably in the field of Educational Psychology or Inclusive Education 
  • Five years (5) teaching experience in Higher Education 
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning, in at least three (3) of the sub-disciplines (developmental psychology, counselling and psychotherapy, research psychology, life orientation, inclusive education, psycho-educational assessment) 
  • Experience in teaching and research within higher education 
  • A record of successful postgraduate supervision of Masters and PhD students, in educational psychology or inclusive education 
  • The integration of community engagement with learning and teaching and/or research 
  • Experience in curriculum development and transformation 
  • Evidence of a good track record of relevant research and publications in Educational Psychology or Inclusive Education
Recommendations/ Added Advantages:
  • Experience in Teaching Practice and teacher development 
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in Educational Psychology will be a strong recommendation
Requirements at a level of Lecturer
  • A Master’s degree in Educational Psychology or Inclusive Education
  • Five years (5) teaching experience in schools, and/or at least one (1) year in a Higher Education setting
  • Teaching experience in Life Orientation
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating teaching and learning at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Experience in curriculum development and transformation
  • The integration of community engagement with learning and teaching
  • Evidence of attendance or presentation at conferences/colloquiums/seminars/ workshops
Recommendations/ Added Advantages:
  • Experience in Teaching Practice and teacher development 
  • Evidence of research and publications (comprising of relevant peer-reviewed and/or accredited journal articles, books or book chapters in reputable publications)

The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that educates students across academic units including Accounting, Economics, Industrial Psychology (Human Resources Management), Information Systems, Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), Institute for Social Development, Political Studies, Management and Finance Clusters, School of Government and the Academic Literacies Programme.
The Department of Accounting has accreditation with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). The Department offers a three-year undergraduate degree and a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) towards SAICA’s Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC). The Department also offers an alternative three-year degree in Accounting, which is accredited by the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA).

  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching in Financial Management and/or Taxation or related Accounting courses
  • A record of publications, preferably in the field of Financial Management and/or Taxation (to provide full details of publications, if any, in CV)
Additional Advantages – Senior Lecturer:
  • A PhD in Financial Management or Taxation or related Accounting discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching on SAICA accredited Financial Management and/or Taxation or related courses
  • Recognized academic leadership (e.g. subject head, programme coordinator, module coordinator)
  • Extensive practical experience in the development of professional academic courses and programmes in Financial Management and/or Taxation or related courses (e.g. SAICA or an equivalent accreditation).
 
Minimum Requirements –Lecturer:

  • Undertake curriculum development and assessment
  • Engage in academic administration
  • Conduct research and publish
  • Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision
  • Participate in community engagement and outreach
  • Contribute to the co-ordination and management of the Department’s teaching and research programmes (Senior Lecturer level only)
 
Minimum Requirements

  • CA (SA) qualification and a relevant Master’s degree
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching in Accounting Information systems or related courses
  • A record of publications, preferably in the field of Accounting Information Systems
Added Advantages:
  • A PhD in the field of Accounting Information systems or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching on SAICA accredited Accounting Information Systems or related courses
  • A record of successfully supervising postgraduate students at Honours and Masters level
  • Recognized academic leadership (e.g. subject head, programme coordinator, module coordinator)
  • Extensive practical experience in the development of professional academic courses and programmes in Accounting Information Systems or related courses (e.g. SAICA or an equivalent accreditation)
