The Department of Student Administration is part of the Registrar’s portfolio. The department runs and coordinates many of the student-based administrative functions of the University e.g. admission and registration of students; administration of examinations and graduations; official release of results and academic transcripts; student cards (ID), and assisting students with a range of registration/enrolment related-matters. Our goal is to provide a professional, friendly and quality service in an efficient manner. We strive to effectively administer the University’s policies, procedures and rules while ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and adhering to the highest ethical standards.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of an Administrative Officer: Student Administration (General Support). Reporting to the Coordinator: Student Administration Helpdesk, the incumbent will assist and support the Student Administration Helpdesk in providing first resolution to clients, students, staff, and alumni. Keep up to date with frequently asked questions, services, policies and procedures to ensure accurate information sharing and correct implementation
- Assisting with online application and registration processes
- Facilitating access to academic records and various confirmation letters
- Addressing queries related to the university’s Student Portal during applications
- Advising on programme changes, deregistration, and re-admission procedures
- Directing students to relevant university departments or resources
- Responding to general administrative and academic-related enquiries from current, prospective, and former students
Minimum Requirements
- Post-matric qualification (NQF 6) with 2-5 years relevant university administrative experience (at least one year should be in an academic administration environment)
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of query management systems
- Be proficient in using web-based IT solutions
The following would be advantageous:
- A NQF level 7 qualification or its equivalent
- Proficient in isiXhosa or any other African language
- Working knowledge of the functioning of a university Helpdesk

- High energy levels over sustained periods of the academic cycle are required

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive Faculty dedicated to teaching and research, as well as to overall student development. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and willing to make a significant contribution to the development of the Faculty.
The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that educates the students across multiple disciplines, including Accounting, Business and Entrepreneurship, Finance, Economics, Industrial Psychology (Human Resources Management), Information Systems, Academic Literacies, and Political Studies. The Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), Institute for Social Development, and School of Government also form part of the Faculty.
The Finance and Operations Manager is responsible for the efficient and effective management of all financial, support, administrative, HR and contractual functions required for the operational functioning of PLAAS.
Key Performance Areas:
1. Financial Management, Administration, Procurement, and Reporting in line with UWC and donor requirements
- Lead the preparation of the institute’s budgets and financial forecasts;
- Conduct strategic forward financial planning and support fundraising;
- Produce and present financial reports to the PLAAS management, the EMS Faculty and the PLAAS Advisory Board;
- Prepare for donor and annual audits and address audit findings;
- Ensure compliance with donor requirements and provide detailed and timeous financial reports to donors;
- Ensure effective liaison with the UWC Finance Department;
- Ensure efficient internal systems for financial planning, management and administration.
- Liaise with auditors, donors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies as needed.
- Lead the budgetary aspects of funding proposals;
- Maintain a contract and SLA management and information system
- Support researchers in compliance with donors’ contractual requirements, especially in relation to project reporting.
- Liaise with the Human Resources Department on all matters related to employment contracts;
- Manage and implement recruitment processes, in close consultation with UWC HR;
- Oversee PLAAS leave administration for professional and administrative support staff;
- Oversee administration of capacity development plans for professional and administrative support staff.
- Be responsible for the day-to-day management of all PLAAS administrative staff;
- Ensure the efficient implementation of core administrative functions, including logistics and reception;
- Liaise with all other UWC departments, as required;
- Ensure that PLAAS administrative staff provide effective travel, event and other support to researchers.
Minimum Requirements
- Postgraduate degree (NQF level 8) in a relevant field (Accounting, Financial Management, Business Administration).
- At least five years’ relevant experience in financial and operations management within a similar organizational environment (preferably University-based or research institute)
- Proven people management experience.
- Experience in financial management and reporting on international donor grants.

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) invites applications for the position of Director: Community Engagement Unit (CEU). This senior leadership role is situated in the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic and plays a critical part in embedding the Scholarship of Engagement for Societal Impact (SoE-SI) across all levels of the university. Rooted in UWC’s legacy of social justice, equity, and transformation, the CEU fosters sustainable partnerships, institutional learning, and public engagement, aligned with Boyer’s vision of engagement as an evolving and co-creative process.
The Director will lead the CEU strategically, positioning it as a dynamic academic and institutional hub for engaged scholarship. The role entails institutionalising community engagement (CE) across teaching, learning, research, and outreach, and promoting inclusive, participatory practices that reflect UWC’s transformation agenda and contribute to societal development. This includes driving CE policy and recognition mechanisms, fostering interdisciplinary knowledge co-production, and amplifying UWC’s visibility in national and international CE landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Institutional Integration:
- Shape and implement the CE strategy in alignment with UWC’s Institutional Operating Plan (IOP)
- Embed CE in governance, curriculum, academic promotion, and research systems
- Contribute to national and global dialogues on community engagement and higher education transformation
- Institutionalising the Scholarship of Engagement for Societal Impact (SoE-SI) across all levels of the university.
- Advance CE as a scholarly field through research, publications, and conferences
- Support curriculum transformation through CE integration in undergraduate and postgraduate offerings
- Lead the development and implementation of CEU-specific modules (e.g., trauma-informed practices, youth engagement).
- Build and manage equitable partnerships with communities, NGOs, government, and international bodies
- Facilitate co-productive knowledge processes and community-led initiatives.
- Represent UWC in strategic CE collaborations, benchmarking, and national platforms.
- Oversee CEU’s role in accreditation processes, and co-create guidelines for CE integration
- Lead curriculum design, training programmes, and programme renewal
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of CE initiatives institutionally and in communities.
- Ensure sound administrative, human resource and budgetary management of CEU
- Develop and manage systems for monitoring and evaluating CE’s institutional impact
- Leverage digital platforms, AI, and emerging tools to enhance CE practice and visibility.
- Conceptualise, prepare, and manage funding proposals and donor reports
- Implement development strategies and maintain stakeholder relationships through regular engagement.
- Promote UWC’s public profile through CEU outputs such as media campaigns, newsletters, alumni stories, and radio series
- Develop CE award criteria and support institutional recognition of CE efforts
- Contribute to national policy and advocacy platforms on CE in higher education.
- Mentor and develop CEU staff through skills training and professional growth pathways
- Facilitate internal capacity building across UWC to strengthen CE competencies among academics and administrators.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant field.
- Eligible for appointment at Professor or Associate Professor level.
- At least 10 years’ experience in higher education, including 5 years in senior leadership roles.
- An established track record in engaged scholarship, curriculum transformation, and partnership development.
- Demonstrated expertise in CE within African or Global South contexts.
Key Competencies:
- Visionary leadership with the ability to align CE initiatives with institutional, national, and global priorities.
- Deep knowledge of CE theory, policy, and practice, including quality assurance and accreditation.
- Proven skills in curriculum development, knowledge co-production, and participatory pedagogy.
