The Department of Statistics and Population Studies, hosted in the Faculty of Natural Sciences, has two axes around which it focusses, namely Statistics and Population Studies. Staff and students in the department are actively engaged in both teaching the next generation of leaders and leading-edge research in the two fields.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibility areas:
- Facilitate learning and teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Statistics
- Conduct research and publish on topics related to Statistics
- Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision

Minimum Requirements
- PhD in Mathematical Statistics
- Demonstrated teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in the field of Statistics
- A record of quality peer reviewed publications, in the field of Statistics and/or Applied Statistics
- A record of successful postgraduate supervision, preferably at the masters level
- Proven expertise in applying complex statistical and data science techniques in statistical packages such as SAS, R and Python

The University of the Western Cape is seeking an exceptional senior IT leader to join our Information and Communication Services Department as Deputy Director: Capability Operations. This is a pivotal leadership position that combines strategic vision with operational excellence, driving the digital transformation of our institution while ensuring the stability, efficiency, and security of our technology infrastructure.

Minimum Requirements

- Proven experience in leading enterprise-wide digital transformation initiatives in organisations of equal complexity to UWC
- Demonstrated ability to operate at executive and strategic levels

The DSTI-NRF Centre of Excellence in Food Security (CoE-FS), hosted by the University of the Western Cape and co-hosted by the University of Pretoria, is a nationally funded research initiative supported by the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) and the National Research Foundation (NRF). The Centre focuses on advancing research in food security, nutrition, and sustainable food systems, while also contributing to policy development, capacity building, and knowledge dissemination. Its work spans academic research, stakeholder engagement, and postgraduate training, strengthening expertise in food security within South Africa and beyond.
Complementing this national effort is UKUDLA, an African-German collaborative research programme funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). UKUDLA promotes interdisciplinary research in food systems resilience and agricultural data science, involving institutions such as the University of Hohenheim, the University of the Western Cape, and the University of Pretoria, alongside other African partners. The programme supports PhD, postdoctoral, and research fellowships, and fosters international collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange. Together, CoE-FS and UKUDLA contribute to advancing sustainable food systems through integrated research, policy engagement, and capacity development across multiple institutions and funding streams.
Reporting to the Project Manager: DSTI-NRF Centre of Excellence in Food Security, the successful applicant will be responsible for the:
- Oversight of financial administration and reporting, including tracking expenditure against approved budgets and preparing consolidated financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordination of budget planning, forecasting, and monitoring, ensuring alignment with project deliverables and funding requirements.
- Monitor cash flow, expenditure trends, and budget utilisation, and flag risks or variances to management.

Job Purpose

1. Strategic Leadership and Governance

- A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience within the performing arts, arts management, higher education, or a related cultural/creative industry environment,
- Demonstrated experience in programme coordination, project management, or operational oversight within an arts or academic setting,

- Proven exposure to community engagement initiatives, particularly within diverse or underserved communities,

- Provide academic leadership
- Curriculum development and assessment
- Participate in community engagement and outreach activities of the SSME

Minimum Requirements
Requirements for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor:

- A strong research and academic publications record
- An excellent record of successful postgraduate supervision

We seeking a dedicated Administrative Officer to join the Student Accounts team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the effective and efficient processing of financial journals and administrative functions related to credit control. You will act as a key advisor to students regarding payment options and financial aid, ensuring all transactions are processed in compliance with university policies and statutory obligations.
The post reports to the Coordinator: Student Accounts.
Key Responsibilities include:
Financial Processing & Billing
- Process financial journals and transactions on student accounts in line with policies,
- Administer debit orders, salary deductions, and student loan allocations (e.g., Fundi, Persal, RealPay),
- Facilitate student refunds in accordance with University policies,
- Maintain reconciliation of control accounts and financial records,
- Process bursaries, rebates (family/staff), and fee adjustments to student accounts,
- Handle student account queries and provide accurate statements,
- Administrate billing and reconciliation of student devices (e.g., laptops),
- Maintain landlord financial information for student accommodation processes,
- Support student registration, termination, and NSFAS-related administrative processes,
- Liaise with internal departments (Faculties, Finance, Financial Aid, SRC) and external stakeholders (Parents, Sponsors, Service Providers),
- Maintain accurate records using systems such as SASI, Google Suite, and financial platforms,
- Responsible for the processing of Exchange Students’ financial transactions,
- Distributing student statements.
Minimum Requirements
- A relevant Diploma (NQF 5 with Accounting subjects) or equivalent
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
Competencies and Skills:
- National Diploma (NQF6) is advantageous
- Proficiency in Excel and modern financial software such as SASI, Q-Link, and RealPay
- Familiarity with digital collaboration tools and Google Suite Applications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of customer service orientation
- Critical thinking and high-level decision-making abilities
