DUTIES:
- Handling telephone calls, enquiries, messages and emails;
- Liaising with internal and external clients, referring veterinarians, students and researchers;
- Receiving, labelling and logging of sample tubes;
- Sending sample tubes to the right department for analysis;
- Spinning samples down for chemistry and aliquoting the samples correctly;
- Accurate storing and discarding of samples;
- Checking, sorting and emailing of daily reports;
- Archiving of reports;
- Assisting with invoicing clients and purchasing of laboratory essentials;
- Assisting with laboratory quality assurance system documents; and
- Training of reception interns.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12;
- One-year administrative experience in a laboratory; and
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Windows, etc.).
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Basic knowledge of laboratory information software programs;
- Basic knowledge of different blood samples;
- Good interpersonal and communication skills;
- Attention to detail; and
- Be able to accurately number and distribute samples.

- Administrative experience in a Clinical Pathology or Pathology laboratory.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A BVSc- or BVMCh-degree or an equivalent veterinary qualification;
- Registration with the SAVC at the time of appointment or eligibility for registration within a reasonable time;
- Demonstrable interest in research;
- Evidence of continued professional development or continued education development;
- Participation in extracurricular academic activities or events;
- Commitment to develop a teaching and learning portfolio required at the lecturer level; and
- Demonstrate strong potential to become an established specialist researcher.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Proven knowledge and competence in Small Animal Surgery;
- Research interest appropriate to the position;
- Candidates without a MSc and/or PhD: Commitment to obtain a MSc and/or PhD in reasonable time;
- Good language and communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills; and
- Generic teaching competence including proficiency with presentation, word-processing; and spreadsheet software.

- Experience in various small animal surgery procedures;
- Tertiary teaching and mentoring experience;
- Exposure to research in an appropriate field; and
- Registration for a MMedVet (surgery) is desirable.

JOB PURPOSE

- Develop and implement appropriate strategic plans and funding mechanisms for the internationalisation of the University's activities of teaching and learning, research and community engagement;
- Work with Deans and Directors to nurture existing key strategic international partnerships and cultivate new ones;
- Develop and oversee the implementation of memoranda of understanding or specific agreements with other institutions, and with networks, both locally and internationally;
- Develop and implement systems and processes for the effective management of international partnerships at UP;
- Establish new initiatives to increase participation in international exchange programmes and enhance exchange programs to ensure reciprocity;
- Oversee the coordination of a broad range of interrelated programmes and services as they apply to international students; and
- Oversee the provision of specialised services to international staff and students of the University.
- Liaise with government bodies, foreign authorities, ambassadors, and funding agencies.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A PhD, preferably in a SET, planning, marketing, internationalisation, finance and economics, management or similar field;
- At least five years’ related proven experience in a senior managerial capacity in a higher education institution;
- At least three years’ proven experience in the research funding and internationalisation landscape within South Africa or elsewhere; and
- At least three years’ proven experience in successful major fundraising initiatives.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
The successful candidate will have advanced proficiency in the following knowledge and technical competencies:
- The research funding and internationalisation landscape in South Africa, Africa and globally;
- Skills and knowledge concerning strategy development and implementation, information management, and management of international programmes;
- Executive management skills (HR, Finance, Negotiations, etc.);
- Exceptional written and spoken communication and language skills in English;
- Proven high-level proposal-writing and presentation skills; and
- Systems development and project management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills;

- The ability to work independently as well as within a team;
- The ability to lead cross-functional teams even without formal authority;
- Critical reasoning, strategic thinking and analytical skills;
- Excellent time management; and

- A Master’s degree in Information Science, Knowledge Management, Information Management or a related discipline;
- Teaching or industry related experience;
- 1 Publication (peer reviewed article or peer reviewed conference paper) or
- Book chapter(s), recognised articles outputs or industry recognised outputs in a commensurate field.
- Evidence of reading towards or registration of PhD studies.

- Evidence of teaching excellence;

BACKGROUND:
The Department of Higher Education and Training is implementing the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) under Staffing South Africa’s Universities Framework (SSAUF) in partnership with South African state universities. Phase 9 of the nGAP has been approved by the DHET and its implementation is currently underway. The University of Pretoria has been allocated 5 posts for this phase as mentioned below. The posts are institution-based and permanent. The aim of this advertisement is to recruit candidates that have a passion for pursuing a career in academia and to improve the equity profile of the University, which constitutes an important aspect of the nGAP and UP’s Strategic Plan. Consequently, the University invites applicants who are 40 years or younger with a Master’s or PhD degree or who are currently enrolled or plan to enrol for a PhD degree and who are from under-represented designated groups to apply for positions in the departments listed below.
POSITIONS: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the following Faculties/Departments:
Education: Educational Psychology (1 post)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbents will be required to:
- Participate in a formal development programme aimed at strengthening their aspirations and skills as researchers and lecturers;
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses;
- Mentor and supervise postgraduate students;
- Conduct collaborative research in their research specialisation areas;
- Play an active role as academics, nationally and internationally;
- Complete their PhD studies in instances where these have not yet been completed;
- Assume limited administration responsibilities in their departments.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
LECTURER:
- A Master’s degree with a 70% average mark in the relevant discipline;
- Illustrate the potential to become a competent lecturer at the undergraduate level;
- Illustrate strong potential to become an established researcher.
SENIOR LECTURER:
- A relevant doctoral degree;
- Proven teaching experience;
- Proven record of publications;
- Proven record of supervision of postgraduate students to completion.
For Educational Psychology: Please remember the following requirements:
- A Master’s degree in Educational Psychology and registration with HPCSA in the category of Educational Psychology
- Or a registered intern with HPCSA in the process of writing the HPCSA Psychology Board Exam.
- A doctoral degree in Educational Psychology/Psychology and registration with HPCSA as an Educational Psychologist.
