RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Lecturing at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level;
- Supervising postgraduate students at master’s and honours level;
- Conducting scientific research and publications in the field of Marketing;
- Liaising with students, parents and other stakeholders; and
- Managing academic departmental events and supervising tutors.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A Master’s degree with specialisation in the field of Marketing Management; and
- Demonstrated lecturing potential at a tertiary level and/or industry experience.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Appropriate language proficiency as well as appropriate communication skills;
- Computer literacy.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
Lecturer:
- Experience in lecturing to and management of large student groups;
- Experience in blended learning practices;
- Exposure to the guidance of postgraduate students’ research;
- Practical marketing experience in commerce or industry;
- Experience in independent research and involvement in research activities;
- Candidates should demonstrate the potential and willingness to obtain a doctoral qualification within a reasonable period after the date of appointment.

JOB PURPOSE:
The position is responsible for the coordination of activities related to health and wellness projects in Student Health Services (SHS) and the Department of Student Affairs (DSA). Complete office administration and reception duties in the clinic. Assist with the functions within SHS and provide support as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidates’ responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Project administration and coordination:
- Coordinating health and wellness project activities, managing schedules and ensuring projects deliverables are completed on time and within budget;
- Conducting risk analysis related to the projects, and compiling progress and monthly reports;
- Collaborating with stakeholders for the development of marketing material and advertising for approval;
- Sourcing health and hygiene products from external donors for students;
- Identifying students’ needs and creating an awareness around burning issues;

General office administration:
- Conducting office administration, including stationery management for all campuses;
- Submitting HIV statistics to the Department of Health, in consultation with management;
- Completing administrative duties for medical staff, including scheduling appointments, managing calendars, attending to correspondence, etc.;
- Completing inventory of equipment, supplies, and material used in clinic;
- Ensuring safe record keeping and confidentiality;
- Capturing the higher health data for the department;

Financial administration:
- Capturing and following up on requisitions and purchase orders;
- Maintaining accurate and organized financial records, including receipts, invoices, expense reports, and financial statements;
- Ensuring that all financial transactions and reporting adhere to relevant financial regulations, as well as organizational policies;

Reception:
- Rendering assistance at reception as required per rotation;
- Receiving visitors and determining consultation requirements for referral to the doctor or nurses;
- Managing appointments and intake of patients;
- Contacting the Security Control Room in the event of dispatching the ambulance services;
- Overseeing the maintenance and organization of medical facilities, and ensuring a clean and safe environment for the patients and staff;
- Communicating with relevant healthcare providers and support staff to relay messages, update on patient arrivals, and assist with any urgent matters.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12;
- A total of four years’ experience in a medical office field which includes experience and knowledge of the following:
- Medical reception and office administration;
- Working in a multi-profession team;
- Planning health and awareness campaigns;
- Financial management;
- A relevant three-year National Diploma in administration;
- A total of two years’ experience in a medical office field which includes experience and knowledge of the following:

JOB PURPOSE:
The purpose of the High-Performance Computer Cluster Administrator is to facilitate and advance cutting-edge research by providing robust, reliable, and high-performance computing infrastructure, along with expert support and guidance to researchers across various disciplines.
The role entails providing support for research projects with specialised computational science needs by administering the following systems:
- Central high-performance computational cluster;
- Natural and Agricultural Science (NAS) cluster;
- RedCap database server for clinical research.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Operating system installation and maintenance:
- Install, configure, and maintain operating systems (e.g., Linux) on the HPC cluster nodes;
- Apply patches, updates, and security fixes to ensure the stability and security of the system;
- Troubleshoot and resolve operating system-related issues;

Cluster management, system installation and maintenance:
- Deploy, configure, and manage cluster management software (e.g., Slurm, PBS Pro) to allocate computing resources efficiently;
- Monitor system performance and optimise cluster utilisation;
- Implement and maintain job scheduling policies to meet the diverse needs of researchers;

Cluster internal network management:
- Configure and manage internal network infrastructure for optimal performance and reliability;
- Troubleshoot network connectivity issues, and implement solutions as necessary;
- Ensure effective communication between cluster nodes and storage systems;

Cluster storage management:
- Administer storage solutions (e.g., Lustre, BeeGFS) for high-performance data access and storage;
- Allocate and manage storage resources according to research requirements;
- Implement backup and disaster recovery strategies to safeguard research data;

User management:
- Provide user support and assistance in accessing and utilising HPC resources;
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and quotas;
- Offer guidance on best practices for efficient utilisation of HPC resources;

Documentation development and training:
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for HPC system configuration, usage, and troubleshooting procedures;
- Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate researchers on HPC best practices and utilisation techniques;

Liaison with stakeholders:
- Collaborate with faculty members, researchers, and other stakeholders to understand their computational needs and requirements;
- Communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences;
- Act as a liaison between research teams and the IT department to address infrastructure-related issues;

Application support:
- Assist researchers in installing, configuring, and optimising scientific applications and tools on the HPC cluster;
- Troubleshoot application performance issues and recommend optimisations;
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in HPC and scientific computing.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Relevant Bachelors/BTech degree; with
- A total of four years’ experience in:
- Administering and managing HPC clusters in a research or academic environment;
- Linux system administration and shell scripting.
- Cluster management systems (e.g. Slurm, PBS Pro) and parallel file systems (e.g., Lustre, BeeGFS);
- Relevant three years National Diploma; with
- A total of six years’ experience in:
- Administering and managing HPC clusters in a research or academic environment.
- Linux system administration and shell scripting.
- Cluster management systems (e.g. Slurm, PBS Pro) and parallel file systems (e.g., Lustre, BeeGFS).
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

Knowledge of:
- Linux operating structure architecture;
- Cluster computing concepts;
- High-performance storage;
- Advanced storage design;
- Understanding of networking concepts and protocols;

Technical competencies:
- Linux system administration and shell scripting;
- Cluster computing management;
- Network administration;
- High-performance storage management;

Behavioural competencies:
- Problem-solving skills, calm in a crisis, good communication skills with users and managers, logical, meticulous, good judgement skills;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment;
- Ability to perform fault-finding and implement solutions.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
- Relevant post-graduate qualification;
- Two years’ experience with:
- Network design;
- IT Infrastructural library (ITIL) and change control;
- User-directed documentation development and training;
- Certification as a:
- Linux server administrator;
- Server administrator;
- Network administrator;
- Cluster administrator.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
It will be expected of the successful candidates to:
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the Department;
- Supervise final year undergraduate project students and postgraduate Honours, Masters and PhD students;
- Conduct research as a member of a research group in the Department and publish in leading accredited journals;
- Raise and manage additional funding from national and international funding agencies and industry to support the activities of the relevant research group;
- Expand existing research programmes or initiate new research programmes;
- Perform assigned departmental duties (e.g. of an administrative nature).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Lecturer:
- A BEng degree from a university of which the undergraduate programme is recognised by the Washington accord or is recognised by ECSA to be equivalent;
- A Masters’ degree in Industrial Engineering that follows on the previous qualification;
- Teaching or industry related experience;
- 1 Publication (peer reviewed article or peer reviewed conference paper); or
- Book chapter(s), recognized articles outputs or industry recognized outputs in a commensurate field.
Senior Lecturer:
- Same as for Lecturer, plus;
- A PhD degree in Industrial Engineering that follows on the previous qualification;
- At least three years tertiary education experience or three years industry experience with some involvement in tertiary education;
- At least 2 articles published in DHET accredited journals or a DHET accredited book;
- At least 2 other publication outputs (peer reviewed conference paper(s) / book chapter(s) / industry recognized outputs in a commensurate field;
- Supervision / co-supervision of Master’s students to completion or proven management experience in industry.
Associate Professor:
- Same as for Senior Lecturer, plus;
- At least 6 years tertiary education experience or 6 years industry experience with some involvement in tertiary education;
- Experience in curriculum / strategy development and innovation;
- Evidence of sustained publications output;
- Majority of recent publications should be in WoS / Scopus / IBSS journals (past 7 years);
- Evidence of at least 3 research Master’s OR 6 coursework Master’s mini-dissertations successfully completed (supervised or co-supervised);
- Evidence of Doctoral student supervision;
- Evidence of conducting reviewer duties for journals and/or conferences.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
For all levels:
- The ability to effectively teach large undergraduate modules.
- The ability to effectively teach and supervise postgraduate modules.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
- Evidence of teaching excellence;
- Preference will be given to the candidate with the specialization in Quality Management or Operations Research. However, candidates from the other areas of Industrial Engineering are encouraged to also apply.
- Related industry work or consulting experience;
- Candidates registered or registerable as Professional Engineer with ECSA;
- NRF rating or have applied for one.
