In 2025 it will be introducing the new Early Childhood Care Education (ECCE) qualification that focuses on the training of teachers for the 0-4 years old children.
POSITION

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- The strategic, academic and operational management of the Department;
- Promoting the Department's research profile;
- Ensuring scholarly academic and professional education and training;
- Playing an active role as an academic leader of the discipline at national and
- international levels;
- Support the teaching and learning portfolio of the Faculty through promoting the use of technology; and
- Fundraising for departmental activities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Associate Professor
- A relevant doctorate with specialisation in the Early Childhood Education, Curriculum Studies, Educational Psychology or related fields. An explicit specialization in research, teaching and learning in Early Childhood Education will be an added advantage.
- 5 - 8 years’ teaching experience in HEI or other education sectors;
- Comprehensive teaching portfolio;
- Meaningful engagement with student feedback;
- 11-13 publications (journals, book chapters, books) of which 4 should be in a mix of internationally and nationally accredited journals;
- 3 publications should be sole authored;
- At least 6 students supervised to completion at Masters or Doctoral level;
- Proof of (inter)national peer recognition;
- Proven research funding success;
- Active international collaborations;
- International conference presentations;
- Recommended: H Index (4 and above);
- Community engagement in a related field;
- Work-integrated involvement/ mentorship;
- Active academic citizenship with a sound mentoring role;
- Evidence of solid academic administrative competence;
- Member of departmental/faculty/ institutional committees;
- Membership of international scholarly/ professional bodies; and

Professor

POSITION

The successful candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- The strategic, academic, and operational management of the department;
- Aligning the vision and objectives of the Department with the broader vision and objectives of the Faculty and the University;
- Promoting, planning, organising, and managing academic and research programmes and the department’s research profile;
- Ensuring quality scholarly academic and professional education and training;
- Managing all financial activities, including fundraising and externally funded projects;
- Playing an active role as an academic leader of the discipline at a national and international level;
- Recruiting and managing of the academic and professional staff of the Department and promoting their continuous development, with a focus on diversity;
- Providing and facilitating mentorship of young academics in the Department; and
- Developing and sustaining external partnerships.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Professor:
- A relevant doctorate degree in financial sciences related fields and registration at a professional body;
- 9 years tertiary teaching experience on undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
- An established research focus and an independent research agenda with;
- At least 15 accredited publications and/or equivalent recognised scholarly outputs and at least 3 of the publications and/or equivalent recognised scholarly outputs should be in the last 5 years (accepted and/or published);
- Completion of at least 10 Master’s students and at least 2 completed doctoral students as the main or co-supervisor;
- Evidence of substantial engagement, leadership and external funding;
- Experience in high-level liaison with internal and external stakeholders and professional boards; and
- Evidence of a developing network of national and/or international research collaborations.
Associate Professor:
- A relevant doctorate degree in financial sciences related fields and registration at a professional body;
- 6 years tertiary teaching experience on undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
- An established research focus with;

The Department of Statistics is a fundamental scientific discipline. Programmes in mathematical statistics and in statistics and data science are presented in the faculties of Natural and Agricultural Sciences and Economic and Management Sciences, respectively. Modules in statistics are also part of many other programmes in several faculties. The professional nature of statistics is intertwined with the department’s academic goals and highlighted through research and research-related consulting activities (offered to industry and the broader UP community). Through these activities, the discipline is strengthened, positioning the department at the forefront of research, teaching, and professional practice.
Statistical training programmes should include the latest knowledge, modern statistical thinking and skills, in partnership with industry. Technology has significantly transformed the availability of information and data, and advanced analytics allows for an in-depth understanding of patterns in data, enabling automation of many manual processes. Thus, applicants should show innovative, creative thinking ability and present new ideas on how to expand and re-imagine the future instructional mode within teaching and learning of the discipline, incorporating data science components.
POSITION
The University seeks to appoint an Associate Professor/Professor and Head of Department. The appointment will be additional to the successful candidate’s academic appointment. Furthermore, the University is seeking highly motivated, internationally recognised scientist to develop the research programme and facilities, complementary to existing research activities in the respective Department. The candidate will be responsible for supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students and is expected to contribute to undergraduate as well as honours courses. OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Statistics is a fundamental scientific discipline. Programmes in mathematical statistics and in statistics and data science are presented in the faculties of Natural and Agricultural Sciences and Economic and Management Sciences, respectively. Modules in statistics are also part of many other programmes in several faculties. The professional nature of statistics is intertwined with the department’s academic goals and highlighted through research and research-related consulting activities (offered to industry and the broader UP community). Through these activities, the discipline is strengthened, positioning the department at the forefront of research, teaching, and professional practice.
Statistical training programmes should include the latest knowledge, modern statistical thinking and skills, in partnership with industry. Technology has significantly transformed the availability of information and data, and advanced analytics allows for an in-depth understanding of patterns in data, enabling automation of many manual processes. Thus, applicants should show innovative, creative thinking ability and present new ideas on how to expand and re-imagine the future instructional mode within teaching and learning of the discipline, incorporating data science components.
POSITION
The University seeks to appoint an Associate Professor/Professor and Head of Department. The appointment will be additional to the successful candidate’s academic appointment. Furthermore, the University is seeking highly motivated, internationally recognised scientist to develop the research programme and facilities, complementary to existing research activities in the respective Department. The candidate will be responsible for supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students and is expected to contribute to undergraduate as well as honours courses. The ideal candidate will have experience in academic administration in a university context and be able to combine field and quantitative methods to address research and teaching. Good contacts in the industry and the international donor community will be an advantage. In addition to the normal administrative duties of a head of department, this position will actively support and drive University of Pretoria’s vision to expand its impact as a leading research-intensive university in Africa. Thus, applicants should be able to demonstrate a record of international research collaboration and teaching, and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Stock management:
- Calculate quantities and type of stock required for menu / item lists (master orders);
- Place orders on time at the approved supplier;
- Check the stock received about quantity and quality. Check delivery note / invoice and sign accordingly. Follow up on the differences with the supplier, and ensure that the necessary corrections are made;
- Ensure that the stock is stored according to food safety protocols;
- Keep control, and record daily, the stock received and dispatched;
- Dispatch stock by the prescribed menu / item lists. Ensure the accuracy of ingredients / items;
- Ensure that the unused and excess stock are handled according to food safety protocols;
- Conduct monthly stock takes, according to divisional rules;

General management:
- Ensure that personnel of the Food Service Unit maintain a positive relationship with clients;
- Address challenges / issues that may arise, and make the necessary adjustments;
- Assist clients with complaints, and ensure communication of unacceptable behaviour towards clients according to prescribed guidelines;
- Assist in compiling manuals / regulations for use in the Food Service Unit;
- Ensure that maintenance procedures are constantly applied and that inventory procedure is followed;
- Ensure that workspace and equipment are optimally utilised – application of ergonomics;
- Ensure that the work environment, activities, and personnel of the Unit comply with Safety and Hygiene regulations;
- Control the wear and care of protective clothing to preserve the department’s image;

Human Resource management:
- Plan work activities and supply constant guidelines to personnel about the execution of duties. Supply guidance / advice to personnel, where required;
- Monitor continuous performance levels of personnel with a formal and approved performance management system;
- Involve personnel in decision-making processes within the Food Service Unit;
- Control the quality of work activities of personnel with formal and informal quality control regulations;
- Take steps, in a participating way, with clearly formulated goals, to improve work performance that does not meet standards;
- Supply the necessary information/support to the Food Service Manager with regard to handling unacceptable work performance of personnel with performance management/disciplinary procedure guidelines;
- Supply the necessary information / support to the Food Service Manager with regard to attending to grievances submitted by personnel with the aid of prescribed grievance procedure guidelines;
- Attend to personnel queries, and inform the Food Service Manager if necessary;
- Ensure that the work schedule is correct and consequently applied;

Financial administration:
- Ensure that purchases and other expenses are done according to guidelines;
- Monitor prices with regard to items / menus and functions, and ensure that it complies with prescriptions;

In regards to the Production Unit:
- Contribute to the constant development, evaluation, and adjustments in terms of the standardization of recipes and costing of cycle menus. Ensure that guidelines of the recipe database are followed;
- Communicate development, evaluate results, and adjust suggestions to the Food Service Manager;
- Provide constant constructive contributions, amendments and innovations to the menus, where necessary. Ensure that the correct procedures in terms of menu amendments are followed, and that information, changes, and / or amendments are communicated to the Food Service Manager in good time;

- Plan a daily production schedule with the aid of meal statistics, menus, and stock on hand. Organize the execution thereof;

- Record meal statistics every month and give them to the Food Service Manager. Keep copies of statistics available, on file;

JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Executive Director: Finance and Business Initiatives, the successful incumbent will be responsible for the operational and strategic management of the Department of Finance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful incumbent’s responsibilities are, but not limited to the following:
Strategic Management and Leadership
- Provide operational and strategic leadership of the Department of Finance.
- Plan and formulate the mission, goals and strategies for the Department which are submitted to the Executive Director for approval.
- Develop programmes and schedules to implement planned goals and activities within stated timeframes.
- Develop long and short-term plans to ensure the effective functioning of the Department.
Liaison and Negotiation
- Serve as Director of University owned campus entities and trustee of the University’s retirement and umbrella funds.
- Ensure that the necessary service level agreements are in place with the relevant departments and are properly maintained.
- Negotiate and liaise with suppliers and contractors.
Financial Management
- Manage the Department's income and expense budget.
- Compile and submit the institutional personnel, capital and operational budget to the Executive Director for approval.
- Develop and implement departmental financial control and savings measures.
- Provide support to line managers in terms of budget control and fund management of various cost centres and operational accounts.
- Monitor operational and capital expenses (in relation to income) and implement corrective action where provided expenses exceed provided income (budget control).
Operational Management of the Finance Function
- Manage the performance outputs of the department and ensure acceptable service levels of specific departmental tasks and activities.
- Monitor and evaluate the tasks and activities of the department in consultation with other relevant structures (e.g., Audit Committee, Investment Committee, Council, Executive, internal auditors and external auditors).
- Report to the relevant management and government structures in accordance with the provisions of IFRS and the regulations as prescribed by the Minister of Higher Education and Training.
- Manage the departmental administrative processes, computer systems and databases and ensure that they are maintained and operational.
- Monitor and evaluate activities of the department in consultation with other relevant stakeholders and structures.
Human Resources Management
- Provide strategic input into the University’s overall staffing structure and associated costs.
- Provide leadership concerning the division’s operational and strategic activities and monitor productivity.
- Manage the performance and development of staff.
- Implement and manage the Department of Finance’s transformation initiatives in line with University’s strategy on transformation, diversity and inclusion
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Registration as a Chartered Accountant (CA) (SA);
- A total of 10 years’ experience (of which 5 years should be in management in a large organisation) in the following:
- Experience in financial management, preferably within the higher education sector;
- Proven track record in leadership roles and managing of financial operations;
- Auditing experience;
- Proven experience and knowledge in closing and drafting of financial statements and international financial reporting standards;
- Proven experience in strategic planning and drafting of budgets;
- Business process improvement; and
- Expertise in the use of ERP systems
- Expertise in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), procurement, investment management, and retirement funds.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
The successful candidate will have advanced proficiency in the following knowledge and technical competencies:
- Advanced knowledge of budgeting, management reporting, and accounting business cycles.
- Advanced knowledge of the South African Tax Law and other related legislations. including Income Tax Act, Value Added Tax Act and provisions of the National Credit Act.
- Experience in the use of financial systems and related ERP systems.
- Ability to communicate complex financial matters effectively.
- Expert knowledge of statutory and other requirements (of government) applicable to tertiary education institutions e.g. HEMIS reporting.
- Advanced knowledge of short-term insurance.
- Advanced knowledge of funds bookkeeping.
- Knowledge of staff remuneration administration, retirement funds management, and personal/company tax.
- Advanced knowledge of study financing (including NSFAS).
- Advanced knowledge of investment administration and the functioning of financial institutions.
- Computer literacy (MS Word and Excel) and computer systems (code structure development and maintenance).
- Excellent report writing skills, including accounting and statistical analysis.
- Expert knowledge of financial reporting to the government, particularly the Department of Higher Education and Training.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication.
- Excellent negotiation and conflict management skills; and
- Ability to interact and relate with a diverse group of institutional stakeholders.

- A postgraduate qualification, at least at a Master’s level.

- Undertaking goal directed research in the field of Data Science and AI related to plant health and productivity and supervising postgraduate students in these fields;

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Lecturer:
- A relevant PhD degree;
- Teaching and research experience with an established publication record in leading international journals that demonstrates research at a high international standard;
- Specialisation in the field of data science and AI, related to plant health, sensor technologies or related fields with applications relevant to Forestry and Agriculture;
- Evidence of the ability to gain an NRF rating in the near future.

JOB PURPOSE:
Provide management and delivery of services designed to enhance, promote, and support research and programme implementation at the Africa Center for Tobacco Industry Monitoring and Policy Research (ATIM). The Centre focuses on policy-relevant research, including serving as an observatory for tobacco industry monitoring in Africa and related industries. Furthermore, in addition to providing training in tobacco control policy research, the centre provides training to advocates, government and media on Tobacco Industry Monitoring and accountability, to be able to inform appropriate policy response in South Africa and the rest of Africa.
The incumbent is expected to create, identify resource opportunities and disseminate research and programme findings across countries; negotiate, structure and implement strategic partnership/grant agreements between ATIM and civil society organisations, government and international partners, including foundations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Managing of the Centre’s operations and human resources;
- Planning, organising and managing the centre’s activities, including people management, programme implementation and taking responsibility for centre’s performance and quality of outputs;
- Compiling the budget and financial reports according to funder requirements and consistent with relevant University policy;
- Providing direct monitoring and evaluating support to programme staff and projects;
- Undertaking continuous monitoring and evaluating of ATIM projects in line with the individual project’s monitoring and evaluation plan, and submit necessary progress reports to the Director of the centre and funders;
- Compiling regular programme performance reports for projects hosted at the centre;
- Preparing for midterm evaluations and other evaluations required by funding partners;
- Performing other ad-hoc functions within Research and programme implementation;
- Searching for funding opportunities;
- Developing fundable research grant proposals;
- Communicating with staff, students and external stakeholders with regards centre’s activity;
- Developing collaborations, manage relationships with relevant stakeholders (academics and students) and strengthen partnerships with diverse organisations;
- Preparing press releases and/or newsletters to engage with the media and public;
- Serving as the centre’s main point of communication (enquiries/emails/telephone calls).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s or equivalent degree in Social Science or Psychology or Public health or related fields;
- A minimum of three years’ experience in managing donor-funded projects in a university or non-profit, non-government organizations (NGO); or community-based organisation. Monitoring and evaluation of projects and programmes, financial management, grant management and supervisory and people management/HR management.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Knowledge, skills and understanding of the South African public health systems;
- Monitoring and evaluating programmes and projects;
- Public health;
- Grant proposal writing;
