LECTURER
Department Electrical Engineering

The Department of Electrical Engineering has a permanent position for a Lecturer in the field of Electrical Engineering with specialization in Clinical Engineering at the Pretoria Campus.
Critical Performance Areas
• To present lectures and assessment of students in related subjects.
• To be an active participant in the research activities of the department especially in the field of Clinical Engineering.
• Responsible for administrative task related to teaching and learning.
• Lead quality teaching and learning with technology.
• Participate in/ and or lead subject and curriculation committees.
• Responsible for and provide leadership in compiling and maintaining quality study guides, laboratory guides, subject files and other Teaching and Learning material.
• Participate in and lead departmental, faculty and institutional initiatives in collaboration with Technology Stations, Centres, Institutes and Research Niche Areas.
• Liaise with industry on course and subject levels regarding curricula, visits, research and other interactions.
• Responsible for independent research and innovation projects and associated funding.
Minimum Requirement
• A relevant Master’s Degree in Electrical and/or Electronics Engineering, specialization in Clinical or Biomedical Engineering (NQF Level 9).
• Experience:
• Three (3) years of relevant teaching experience in education and/or 3 year experience in industry.
• Experience in the supervision of students at Master’s level will be an added advantage.
• A noteworthy contribution to academic/research outputs in accredited journals and peer-reviewed conferences.
• Teaching, research and/or relevant experience in industry would be a strong recommendation.
• Experience with regards to management of academic matters, quality of programs, student affairs and research projects.
• Experience in research and monitoring of postgraduate students is recommended.
• Supervisory experience in industry and/or academic fields will be a strong recommendation
• Industry liaison and involvement in Centres, Institutes and Technology Stations, will be an added advantage.
• Industry liaison and involvement in the development of new curriculum will be an added advantage.
• Knowledge and Skills
• Knowledge in the area of Clinical Engineering as a cluster of related subjects within Electrical Engineering programmes will be an advance.
• Practical experience having completed successful projects in the field of Clinical Engineering and Electrical Engineering will be an advance.
• Registration with professional body (if applicable):
• Registration with ECSA in the appropriate professional category will be an advantage and/or Membership of the Clinical Engineering Association of South Africa (CEASA) would be an added advantage.

• Master’s in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering with a specialization in Telecommunications (NQF Level 9).

3. Knowledge and Skills
• Resourceful in all electronic, digital communications, wireless communications and networks related subjects.
• Knowledge in the areas of Fixed, Wireless and Mobile networks.
• Experience with some of the following wireless communication standards such as: - Family of 802.11 standards (802.11n, 802.11ac) and emerging wireless broadband standards.
- Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETS)
- Wireless Sensor networks and applications.
- Emerging Mobile Cellular network (LTE, 4G and 5G)
