Position Purpose
Actively participates in long-range strategy planning and translates strategic requirements into a usable enterprise information architecture, which may include an enterprise data model, associated meta model to guide enterprise solution development and achieve consistency of information assets across the application portfolio.
The incumbent is responsible for the overall design of the enterprise-wide data/information architecture, which maps to the enterprise architecture (EA) and balances the need for access against security and performance requirements.
Defines data/information architecture standards, policies and procedures for the organization.
Provides senior leadership, vision, and direction for management information systems, in support of the enterprise's business objectives and requirements.
Position Outputs
ICT Information Architecture Planning: Responsible for providing the strategic direction for the ICT MIS function on an enterprise level. Interfaces with business unit executives and other IT functional area executives to define information requirements Integration, transformation, modeling and data validation Strategy Alignment: Align information requirements to TE organization mission, goals, and business drivers.
Management: Responsible to lead the management, planning and execution of the Transnet Engineering ICT MIS department consisting of both structure and unstructured information. Information Systems: Responsible for information architecture analyses, design, deployment, utilization and enhancement of information systems in support of their business objectives. Plan, design, develop and maintain an ECM Operational model Transnet Engineering. Operational Information: Provide for all information requirements to support the SAP-ERP system. Eg Development of utility programs to support reporting as well as the Development of ASAP programs.
Emerging Technologies: Improve information usefulness by tracking emerging technologies; evaluating their applicability to business goals and operational requirements. Research: Identify user requirements by researching and analysing user needs, preferences, objectives, and working methods; Knowledge: Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
Governance: Implementation of MIS governance by creating MIS policies, standard, procedures and utility programs to govern the MIS development process. Management: Management and development of all MIS staff. Up skilling and training of MIS staff Research: Improve information usefulness by tracking emerging technologies; evaluating their applicability to business goals and operational requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Degree / Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in Information Systems / Computer Science / Information Technology or relevant ICT qualification. Minimum 8 years’ Management Information System (MIS) experience or relevant in a large enterprise of which at least 3 years at managerial level or specialist experience. OR. Minimum 10 years’ Management Information System (MIS) experience or relevant in a large enterprise of which at least 5 years at managerial level or specialist experience.
