Position Purpose
Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) invites suitable, unemployed South African graduates between the ages of 18-35 to apply for a two-year graduate development programme, within various functional areas to be provided with both the institutionalised knowledge and on-the-job training to help you build a solid work experience to increase prospects of employability. The programme is structured and mentored for twenty-four months and candidates progress is assessed after every six months to ensure that the programme meets the expectations of both the candidate and TFR.
This exciting opportunity is aimed at unemployed graduates from the Department of Higher Education & Training registered institutions i.e., Universities, Universities of Technology, TVET Colleges with a National Diploma / Diploma / Bachelors’ degree / BTech qualification with NQF Level 6 and 7 with no prior work experience in their respective field of study.
 
Position Outputs
A two-year graduate development programme will be followed.
 
Qualifications and Experience
•Degree/ National Diploma-Internal Auditing/Bachelor of Accounting/BCom Accounting/Auditing/Taxation/Finance/Information Management/BSc with Computer Science/Statistics/Mathematics. •No prior work experience is required. However, applicants will undergo a recruitment process, and successful candidates will be placed in various Depots, Departments within TFR. •Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen. Position Purpose
The purpose of the Training Programme is to develop a pipeline for key roles within Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) through a structured 12-month training programme. The programme seeks to place learners in specific areas within TPT according to their academic background, career aspirations and business requirements.
Preference will be given to candidates residing in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.
 
Position Outputs
  • Obtain hand over
  • Obtain loading instruction
  • Allocate General Workers to hook
  • Tally cargo on Tally Sheet
  • Supervise Port Workers in terms of hooking
  • Record delays on delay sheet
  • Complete incident / accident report
  • Inspect cargo/ container on truck for damages
  • Scan (P-check) container via HHT into NAV
  • Scan (P-check) container via HHT into NAVIS
  • Complete Container Inspection Form for damages to container/s (CIR)
  • Supervise drivers during shift
  • Scrutinise landing orders for despatching of cargo Locate cargo and instruct driver to uplift Instruct Port Workers to place dunnage Complete delivery note and hand to driver
  • Complete SAP1 and SAP 2 docu
  • Compare shipping order from driver to one in possession
  • Position cargo according to stack plan
  • Obtain list of cargo to be loaded onto rail truck from agent
  • Open all rail trucks and ensure they are clean
  • Ensure truck mass is not exceeded
  • Complete loading out list and ensure trucks are closed
  • Make out truck labels
  • Report all breakdowns / accidents
  • Identify vessels working
  • Attend on board meeting if required
  • Obtain manifest 72 hours before arrival of vessel
  • Scrutinise manifest and obtain landing orders
  • Open file for vessel
  • Cross reference landing orders against manifest
  • Obtain (tally) from wharf
  • Check Tallies against manifest
  • Identify short landed cargo and follow up
  • Square up vessel file after ensuring cargo is despatched correctly
  • Send file to revenue
 
Qualifications and Experience
• Grade 12/ Matric • (Advantageous: TVET N6 in Logistics/Transport) • Youth Age between 18 and 35 years.

  • Handle commodities in line with daily operational requirements
  • Complete logbook as well record equipment defects.
  • Handling of data terminals where applicable.
  • Maintain work related radio communication.
  • Monitor equipment performance during operation to establish defects.
  • Report incidents / accidents.
  • Report daily operational occurrences.
  • Operation of safety equipment when required (fire extinguisher).
  • Adhere to terminal safety policies and procedures.
  • Sign on to the terminal operating system (Navis).
  • Follow on screen directives using Navis.
  • Acknowledge task complete at end of instruction cycle.
