Business Unit: Knowledge Management
Job Title: Economist
Reporting to: Executive Manager : Knowledge Management
Brief Outline of Duties:
To provide high quality economic information to enable TIKZN to achieve its strategic objectives and initiatives through providing intelligence on, and insights into, the KZN Provincial economy. To lead the TIKZN economic research functions, in the development of an accurate and accessible evidence base for the TIKZN business community and key stakeholders. Within the Knowledge Management unit, the Economist will act as a well-regarded source of reliable information and data regarding KZN’s economy.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS (Among others)
1. Content for economic information products
2. Economic development impact
3. Analysis of trade and FDI flows
4. Country and market product targeting strategy
5. Knowledge dissemination
JOB SPECIFICATION
Educational and / or Technical Competencies:
Relevant Post-Graduate Honours degree in Economics or related discipline is essential.
Experience:
• Thorough knowledge of applicable legislation.
• Thorough knowledge of researching, reviewing, documenting and disseminating Economic Statistics and Information
• Knowledge of the Investment Promotion environment would be advantageous.
• Basic understanding in Export Promotion would be advantageous.
• Sound knowledge of:
- Project planning
- Concept development

• Sound ability to interpret Financial, Numerical, Macro-Economic, Micro-Economic, Market-Intelligence and applicable Sector information
• Organisational and Planning Skills, with ability to work flexibly and in tight deadlines, within a team environment.
• Good verbal and written communication skills, including sound report writing
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to work with and through internal and external human and technological resources, to achieve desired results
• Staff Management, Coaching and Motivation
• Embody a strong sense of professionalism
• A strong sense of initiative and drive Computer Literate at an intermediate level
• Good telephone and office etiquette
