GRAPHIC DESIGNER

About the Role: The Graphic Designer, as part of the Brand & Communications team, services all the departments of the MTF and provides visual material for marketing and branding purposes. This includes, but is not limited to, the design of posters, flyers, banners, digital media (social media, website and other visual online assets), annual reports, brochures, merchandise etc. This also includes the export and process of printing material with external suppliers. The graphic designer has a strong understanding of logo design, typography, colour, web layout design, print production and image selection and knows how to use these tools in order to conceptualize and create striking and strong designs that aid the marketing team in promoting the essence of the project/product.

Design visual content for marketing purposes
- Design of posters, banners and web based assets used to market productions, events, programmes and courses.
- Design of marketing material that is used to advertise specific activities and/or items which affect the MTF as a whole.
- Ensuring that all designs adhere to the MTF CI and the specific CI of the specified business unit, if and where applicable.
- Guide client through a brief in order to obtain clear ideas of what to design for the specified product/event.
- Conceptualise a design that meets both the brief requirements, as well as marketing needs.
- Ensure that designs remain relevant and relateable to contemporary audiences/markets, while remaining true to the product/event and the institution.
- Create concepts that speak to contemporary design language as well as marketing needs.
- Conceptualise abstract ideas into concrete and relatable designs that work on a marketing front, while still communicating the essence of the product/event.
- Stay ahead of current and upcoming design trends and language in order to remain relevant within a popular culture space.
- Constantly evaluate current design trends from other similar businesses across the globe and see how to incorporate new and contemporary design languages into the MTF’s designs.
- Provide designs that speak to and challenge current design trends that aim to constantly be ahead of the curve.
- Ensure that the design language not only speaks ot current and forecasted trends, but still remains true to the client/product, as well as the MTF.
- Provide partners who will be designing assets with thee MTF CI and logos and guide them through the design language.
- Ensure that the received designs speak to the MTF’s CI, while also speaking to the partner’s identity.
- Negotiate how the different partner Cis will be used in order to create a singular series of assets that remain true to all institutions/individuals.
- Obtain quotes for the printing of marketing material.
- Provide print-ready files to chosen supplier and ensure that proofs are correct.
- Ensure that the quality of the prints are up to standard and correct.
- Ensure that printed assets are distributed to the correct departments for installation/distribution.
Desired Experience & Qualification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION
- Diploma/degree in Graphic Design or related qualification
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the graphic design/art direction field and experience in conceptualizing abstract ideas and briefs.
- Experience with MAC and the Adobe Suite. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience in the artistic/creative industry would be an added advantage
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS
- Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Microsoft Skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Familiarity with HTML and WordPress
- Working with departmental teams in-person, via email, and over the phone
- Understand the different design needs of each social platform and marketing channels
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication, conceptual thinking, and typography skills
- Good interpersonal and time management skills
- Accountable and proactive
- Self-motivated and passionate
- Reliable and consistent
