Job Purpose:
The unit's administrative coordination is effectively carried out to enable effective investment management processes, smooth budgeting processes, timeous knowledge transfer through the correct channels, all of which will ensure a comprehensive and continued support service to internal and external stakeholders.
This position will provide coordinator services between two Business Units - Health and Indigenous Knowledge Systems.

Minimum Requirements
- Three (3) year (Science or Engineering qualification) or relevant certification (e.g. ICASA SA), Business/Economic/Finance/Management
- Three (3) years’ experience in project management and/or administration /financial management

Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure that the investment/portfolio budgets and expenditure are effectively updated and monitored, so that all people in the unit have updated information with regards to the budget
- Draft, capture, track, monitor and report on Unit’s operational budget (Reconciliation with BI System) to the Head.
- Ensure that Internal and external customers are aware of units offerings, mandate and keep abreast with the unit’s focus areas
- Attend to cases on the CRM system and allocate to the correct Portfolio/Programme Manager within 48 hours. Ensure that progress on cases are updated and resolved appropriately. Report outstanding cases to the relevant Heads and Executives on a weekly basis.
- Enable the unit to engage effectively with Stakeholders and client. Arrange workshops with stakeholders as and when required.
- Keep a register from all Stakeholders on the impact achieved from TIA investments. (Demographic analysis, Geographic analysis, PDI, Women, Youth)
- Perform initial pre-screening evaluations on new applications and issue a feedback report with recommended actions to the Head of the Business Unit for review.
- Coordinate and schedule meetings with Internal and External Stakeholders as required, and also ensure all travel arrangements are coordinated, verified and finalized. This includes external experts.
- Accompany portfolio/programme managers to on-site meetings to assist with minute taking and follow-up on matters arising.
- Ensure proper records management for the Business Unit in compliance with the TIA file plan and records management policy and procedures.
- Collate reports of external experts and present to the Portfolio of Programme Manager, or Unit Head as required.
- Prepare disbursement packs for sign-off. Ensure that disbursements take place in specified timeframes.
- Update investments dashboards with the statement of progress during the Investment review phase
- Collect and collate information to compile relevant reports (Coordination and completion of Unit monthly reports)

Reports to position:
- The Fund Principal reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
- Contract Duration: (Five Years Fixed Term Contract)
Purpose of the Position:
To lead the strategy development, deployment, sourcing, negotiating, and management of TIA’s direct and indirect investments in the Fund of Funds business. To lead the establishment of relevant special purpose vehicles and partnerships with an aim of leveraging funding and creating value at both investee level as well as support the sustainability of TIA. Responsible for the establishment and implementation of relevant system interventionist programmes within the Venture capital space. Responsible for origination, due diligence, execution (including structuring and funding), post-transaction portfolio management and value addition in line with the Agency’s investment strategy.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Honours Degree in Finance, Engineering, Legal or a related field with a relevant Commerce and Engineering degree.
- FAIS RE 05 Certificate or must be obtained within 6 months of employment
- 10 -12 Years of relevant investment experience, particularly in fund of funds (multi-manager), within the venture capital/private equity space.
- 5 – 7 years in a Fund Principal role within a debt or equity fund.
- Tangible experience in commercialization funding, including a track record in early-stage funding of pre revenue businesses to revenue making business, including exporting.
- Experience in venturing/venture building, small business management or advisory services.
The following will serve as an added advantage
- MBA/ M.Com/MSc/CA / CFA and/or any relevant Masters degree (added advantage).
- Minimum + FAIS license and accreditation as a key individual within a Fund.
- 15 years of relevant investment experience, particularly in fund of funds (multi-manager), within the venture capital/private equity space.
- Previous experience in the establishment and management of a Venture capital fund.
- Experience in venturing, small business management or advisory services, will be advantageous.

Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Perspective
- Conduct relevant market research to assess market opportunities in key strategic sectors.
- Evaluating potential investments and structure deals based on financial projections and risk assessment
- Responsible for managing a collective Funs Portfolio size of at least R1bil.
- Design transactions, including capital and legal structuring and further provide post investment support for successful commercialization and ongoing support including restructuring where necessary for target investments.
- Build and manage the investment pipeline through due diligence imperatives.
- Effective fund structuring and portfolio management to ensure financial and development objectives of funds under management are achieved.
- Conclude funding partnerships by effectively addressing queries and negotiating terms and conditions that are in line with the Fund’s mandate, objectives and capacity.
- Development and maintenance of Investment Models, portfolio data and supporting analytics in line with policies and procedures.
- Conduct post-investment reviews and negotiate exits to achieve returns in line with strategic objectives.
Stakeholder Management
- Build influential relationships, networks and collaborate with internal and external key stakeholders and clients to position TIA as the partner of choice for third party funds and ensure that the TIA’s product offerings and expertise are optimally utilized.
- Develop and manage relationships with a wide network of investors and other partners professional advisors, consultants, etc.
- Manage and enhance the levels of service and communication to ensure the provision of client service excellence. Oversee project management including review and project reporting, pre-approval, on-going progress reporting and close out.
- Identify existing funds and instruments in the ecosystem and partner to complement existing efforts.
- Develop strategies to attract private capital (co-funding) to co-invest in early technological opportunities.
- Continuously research and analyse the venture capital eco-system in search of new opportunities.
Internal Processes
- Develop the business case and strategy for the establishment of a Fund of Fund unit within TIA.
- Seek the necessary Board, Shareholder and regulatory approvals for the implementation of the strategy.
- Implement approved strategy towards the establishment of relevant special purpose vehicles in TIA.
- Develop and implement investment strategy and philosophy, fund mandate, deal origination strategy and project development strategy.
- Lead an effective asset allocation framework.
- Coordinate the composition and the functioning of the Fund Investment committee for Portfolio management and monitoring.
- Formulate relevant frameworks, policies and procedures that enable the achievement of the organisation strategy.
- Lead and manage the whole investment process from deal sourcing through to disbursement. Manage and monitor portfolio of investments.
- Proactively identify investment partners and opportunities.
- Be able to assist fund managers and investments to develop a pragmatic, operationally grounded, clear strategy and plan to maximize sustainable, profitable growth.
- Identification of Key risks facing the portfolio and implement mitigating strategies / policies.
- Regular reporting to internal and external stakeholders on the portfolio of the third - party funds and associated stakeholder engagement / management.
Learning & Growth
- Develop implementation framework for management of the new / emerging fund manager programme.
- Engage relevant partners for the expansion of support to the programme.
- Deal sourcing (new fund managers) through relevant call process.
- Undertake necessary due diligence and submit for approval relevant fund managers to be supported within the programme.
- Undertake necessary post investment including mentoring and support to emerging fund managers.
- Provide support in the fund raise and fund establishment to emerging VC funds.
- Conduct impact assessments to evaluate effectiveness of the various funds under management / fund portfolio.
- Review the design of the programme to assess and improve effectiveness of the design, implementation and the impact.
- Ensure the Business unit’s set targets and objectives are met.
- Review performance against agreed performance standards and implement corrective measures where required.
