The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is therefore seeking to appoint an efficient and enthusiastic person to undertake the role of: 
 
Chief Data Quality Controller – Re-advertisement 
Salary: Negotiable

Centre: Pretoria 
 
 
Job Summary: 
The Chief Data Quality Controller will be responsible to lead on matters relating to the quality control of weather and climate data on the main climate database of the organisation. 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
• Participate in the quality control of historical and real time climate data from the SAWS surface observation network 
• Conduct climate data preservation and rescue procedures 
• Receive and check the completion of climate documents and reconcile data on returns with on the database 
• Conduct follow-up with the Regional Offices pertaining to outstanding data as well as necessary documents 
• Sorting of the returns to prepare them for scanning may be requested 
• Retrieve climate data from original sources from outside of the organization, organize, store, and capture it 
• Participate in the development of new techniques, methodologies and processes in field of data quality control 
• Assist Scientists, Client Liaison Offices and Forecasters with data requests and analysis when requested 
• Understand the importance of working for an ISO 9001 accredited organization and participate towards maintaining SAWS’s accreditation.
 
Minimum Requirements and Attributes: 
• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification 
• A Weather Observers Certificate or equivalent qualification in the field of meteorology or climatological or related fields 
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role 
• Ability to read, analyse and interpret climate data and information 
• Excellent computer skills, especially excel 
• The ability to work in crystal reports or SQL and the GIS environment will be an added advantage 
• Good communication, interpersonal and analytical skills are essential 
• Valid EB or Code 08 Drivers License 
• No international travel restrictions
