About the Position
SARS seeks to appoint an innovative, highly skilled, and suitably experienced Senior Business Analyst to join our Business Systems environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong business acumen, sound judgement, and a proven ability to deliver high‑quality analytical insights and solutions. This role requires a strategic thinker who can translate business needs into effective system requirements, drive process optimisation, and contribute meaningfully to organisational performance. The incumbent will play a critical role in supporting SARS’s higher purpose and advancing service delivery in alignment with our strategic objectives.
This role will ensure the successful delivery of system enhancements, upgrades, and new functionality across the organization’s business applications. This position is responsible for analysing business requirements, coordinating release activities, and ensuring that changes are deployed smoothly, securely, and with minimal disruption to operations.
The role serves as a bridge between business stakeholders, technical teams, and project managers—providing expertise in system processes, release planning, and risk management. The Senior Analyst ensures that releases are aligned with business priorities, comply with governance standards, and deliver measurable value to end users.
 
Job Purpose 
To provide expertise, advice and support to deliver on operational implementation plans and / or associated service delivery processes, by providing governance and analysis output for a single large project or across a series of smaller related initiatives including but not limited to automation testing, while providing relevant industry experience to the process, in order to continuously enhance service delivery.
 
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualification & Experience Required
Relevant National Diploma / Advanced Certificate (NQF 6) in Information Technology; AND 3–4 years’ experience in Release Management and/or Business Analysis within a complex systems environment, of which 1–2 years at knowledge‑worker level.

Job Purpose
To be responsible for the design, implementation, change control, and support using SARS Workload Automation Scheduling (BMC Control-M) system, which defines organisational operational processes. About the Position
A driven and dedicated litigator is required in the customs and excise litigation area. As a senior member of the team, you will contribute with minimum supervision to the full scope of pre-litigation and litigation lifespan in your assigned matters, mainly in the Magistrates Courts, Higher Court, the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court, wherever applicable. You are further required to provide contributions to organisational planning and offer technical expertise, mentoring and advice to the team and others.
 
Job Purpose
To provide customs and excise pre-litigation and litigation service in the Higher Courts on customs and excise disputes.  The function involves the entire scope of litigation services, from researching legal and tax principles, analysing the merits of SARS’s position, follow internal governance processes, reviewing counsel’s drafts of court documents including pleadings and heads of argument, preparing deponents, and attendance in court when matters are heard. An important part of the pre-litigation process is to timeously attend to all notices of intended legal action in order to prevent unnecessary litigation.

  • Law Degree preferably a LLB AND 8-10 years' experience in a legal / tax environment, of which 3-4 years at operational specialist level.
  • Admission as an attorney or advocate is a further requirement.
