SENIOR SPECIALIST: CYBERSECURITY (3 YEAR FIXED-TERM CONTRACT)

Objective: The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) is a statutory public entity that operates under the NQF Act, No. 67 of 2008. SAQA seeks to appoint a Senior Specialist: Cybersecurity. The successful candidate will develop and implement a comprehensive information (electronic and other formats) security and privacy programme, assuring that information created, acquired, or maintained by SAQA and its authorised users and clients is used in accordance with its intended purpose. Requirements are:
  • The most eligible candidate must hold an appropriate recognised qualification at NQF Level 7 on the 10 Level NQF, or equivalent.
  • Furthermore, a CompTIA Security+ or Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) is a minimum requirement for this position.
  • An NQF Level 8 qualification on the 10-Level NQF with Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) would be advantageous.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in IT Security Management including formulation and implementation of policies and procedures is required.
  • 2 years’ experience in 5 cybersecurity domains and Knowledge of ISO/IEC 27000 family of standards is a further requirement.
  • More than 5 year’s working experience in developing and administering an information security system or 3 years’ experience in 8 cybersecurity domains would be an added advantage.
  • The incumbent must have good knowledge of IT laws and regulations, Information Systems and technology principles, IT architecture, IT security, data management and security, programming concepts and application development, and database change management.
  • Problem-solving, project management and building alliances should be the skills of those aspiring for this appointment.
 
Key performance areas:
  • Work with IT Management on the implementation of the ICT Security controls across the whole organization.
  • Ensure that procedures are developed and implemented to enforce security across all systems and networks.
  • Research and advise on ICT security industry developments and trends.
  • Ensure that business partners and contractors observe internal security practices.
  • Recommend new and effective ICT security systems and enhancements.
  • Aid in the implementation of ICT security controls.
  • Define and plan ICT security projects.
  • Prepare monthly reports to both business and IT management on security violations.
  • Ensure that proper and up-to-date documentation of system access is kept for all users across all systems.
  • Conduct IT security related special projects.
  • Monitor project progress by tracking activity, resolving problems, reporting on progress and making recommendations.

SAQA seeks to appoint a Senior Specialist: Software Developer. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating cutting-edge software that supports critical business processes. Applicants are required to attach their CV and application letter when applying for this vacancy. Requirements are:
  • The most eligible candidate must hold an appropriate recognised qualification at NQF Level 7 on the 10 Level NQF, or equivalent.

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in IT systems and application development is required.
  • Experience in Microsoft Azure development stack, Web application development and industry 4.0, covering all popular programming languages such as C#, Python, PHP, HTML and Java is a further requirement.
  • More than 5 years’ experience in ICT systems and application development or experience of the implementation of SDLC will be advantageous.
  • The incumbent must have good knowledge of IT laws and regulations, Relational Databases, Data Management principles and methods, Automation and Programming concepts and application development.
  • Project management, programming and process re-engineering should be the skills of those aspiring for this appointment.
 
Key performance areas:
  • Develop cutting-edge software using the latest development tools and frameworks.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners and Test Analysts in developing, testing, and deploying systems components.
  • Research and develop new technologies.
  • Periodically review IT business processes to ensure their suitability.
  • Manage the master data, including creation, updates and deletion.
  • Document existing business and IT systems functionalities and capabilities.
  • Improve business and IT systems by designing and modification of business and IT systems.
  • Determine business requirements and translate these into technical specifications.
  • Conduct feasibility studies prior to the development or acquisition of new applications systems and/or amendments to existing applications.
  • Define project requirements by identifying project milestones, phases.
  • Co-ordinate, test, maintain and monitor system implementation.
