Core Functions: 
 To ensure the managing of a Veterinary Service for the SAPS. 
 Manage and maintain animal welfare in the SAPS. 
 Manage the development and maintenance of strategies, policies and guidelines. 
 Monitor and evaluate clinical services delivered by SAPS Veterinary Hospitals, Clinics and private veterinarians. 
 Ensure primary health care amongst all SAPS animals and to promote animal welfare principles on ground level at all K9 and Mounted Units. 
 Conduct veterinary related research inclusive of breeding and training of and related to SAPS animals. 
 Ensure that SAPS horses are correctly shod in order to be operationally ready.
