- Manage the plan of work to develop five-yearly Catchment to Coast Strategies, manage contributions to the development of five-yearly Western Cape Biodiversity Spatial Plans and Western Cape State of Biodiversity Reports.
- Manage contributions to annual Western Cape State of Conservation Reports.
- Manage scientific and technical contributions for the development and implementation of management plans, strategies, and frameworks for biodiversity conservation outcomes.
- Manage, develop, and integrate effective Integrated Catchment conservation policies, strategies, and systems.
- Lead, contribute to and collaborate on the review and development of national and provincial biodiversity and conservation management policies and practices aligned with national legislation, policies, guidelines, and multilateral environmental agreements.
- Generate impact through the enablement, development and integration of technologies, practices, policy, science, and innovation

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications and Experience
- A post graduate qualification (NQF 8 or higher) in Natural/Biological Sciences.
- A minimum of 5 years’ middle management experience in the biodiversity/conservation sector. Senior management experience in the formal conservation sector will be advantageous.
- Demonstrated project leadership and management. Include summary of lead/managed projects and as well as authored/co-authored strategic outputs.
- Excellent communication in English both written and spoken, with demonstrated experience in formal and scientific writing. Linguistic in at least one other official language of the Western Cape.
- In possession of a valid, (unendorsed) Code EB driver’s license with own vehicle and willingness to travel extensively throughout the Western Cape Province and elsewhere as required.
- Sound understanding and knowledge of applicable legislation and ability to interpret and implement.

Job Description
This position is suited to a dedicated conservationist, who would like to contribute meaningfully to the conservation of biodiversity through protected area management. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

CapeNature seeks to temporary employ an experienced Communication Officer to join their Advocacy team. This role requires an individual who is excellent in corporate and creative writing and editing, experienced in media relations, and well versed in corporate and employee communication. The successful individual will be based at CapeNature’s head office in Bridgetown (Cape Town), occasionally traveling to reserves for content generation and stakeholder engagements across the Western Cape.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
KPA 1 – Manage production of internal and external communication products and services
Research, compile, write, edit, oversee design and distribute publications for both in-house consumption and external audiences such as weekly newsletters, quarterly staff newsletters, corporate and marketing documents. At times this will also involve writing specifications and managing service providers. Assist with public enquiries.
KPA 2 – Deliver a corporate and creative writing and editing service
Write content for various communication channels including corporate email channel, intranet, marketing material, press statements and speeches. Serve as Secretariat on in-house Editorial Committee.
KPA 3 – Assist with execution of media strategy
Manage daily media monitoring, write weekly media monitoring reports, input into monthly media dashboard, draw analytics for various reports, ensure that targets are met, keep media database up to date, handle media enquiries, comply with entity’s Media Management Policy, promote media relations, manage media events.
KPA 4 – Render a support service to staff ito corporate communication and events
Ensure brand compliance across the entity and manage brand collateral, manage work flow of component via project management system, support corporate events, facilitate a Language service.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Three-year National Diploma or Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Communication Science, or related disciplines. (NQF level 6).
- At least 4 years’ experience in a media liaison, communication or relevant role.
- Proven excellent language proficiency in English.
- CV/portfolio must include examples of writing in English.
- A valid Code B drivers’ license

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key Performance Area: Financial management
- Management of debt, collection of revenue and cash management
- Management of payables, accruals and commitments, inventory management and bank
- Management of all assets and an outsourced fleet of vehicles
- Management of payroll for head office, projects and all nature reserves
- Review of all monthly reconciliations and investigations of unreconciled items
- Month-end and year close process
Key Performance Area: Financial Governance
- Updating relevant financial policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with GRAP standards and PFMA
- Preparation of audit file for annual audit
- Assist internal control unit and internal audit as needed
Key Performance Area: Financial Analysis and Reporting
- Financial ratio analysis
- Preparation of monthly reports as required
- Assist in finalizing the monthly management pack as well as year-end pack

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting or similar NQF level 7 qualification
- 3 years’ work experience in a management role (excluding articles/internships)
- Completed SAICA/SAIPA Articles would be an advantage
- Sage Intacct experience will be an added advantage
- Public sector experience will be an added advantage
