To support the Manager Financial Accounting in ensuring finances are appropriately managed, reported on and are compliant to ensure the overall financial success of Pelchem
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Provide financial support and perform reconciliations
• Minimize financial risk to Pelchem
• Achieve competency in accounting and financial reporting
• Ensure Financial systems supports business needs
• Prepare accurate, timely management accounts in accordance with IRFS and input from the finance department monthly, quarterly and annually
• Prepare the trail balance in accordance with the financial management strategies and policies
• Conduct monthly general ledger account reconciliation to ensure accurate reporting
• Conduct regular ledger maintenance in line with policy and procedures
• Supply departmental income statements to departments in line with established policies and procedures
• Handle financial management queries raised or delegate to appropriate staff
• Advise line management during budgeting and forecasting exercises in line with the financial framework
• Handle queries on annual basis raised by internal and external audits as directed by the Manager Financial Management
• Review actively After each month-end, then perform reconciliation as per financial procedure and templates
• Review and verify monthly project related Opex and Capex claims reconciliations
• Check allocation of expenses to correct general ledger codes Facilitate payments
• Ensure salary payments are approved on time by management
• Ensure Creditors paid timeously with exact amounts
• Process the upload of medical aid deductions precisely
• Upload salary payments into banking system and submit to HR Manager for checking; while getting approval for payment
• Upload medical aid deductions onto banking system and check accuracy
• Upload creditors payments onto banking system to ensure Pelchem is paying correct amounts to correct creditor and receive approval from approval
• Review supplier payments batches to meet established timelines Analyse financial reports and asset management • Ensure that Financial accounting systems reflect accurate entries
• Minimize mistakes in reconciliation process
• Ensure Asset numbers match plant and equipment to effect high quality management decision
• Ensure Anomalies are reported promptly and accurately
• Ensure accurate financial inputs into financial accounting system
• Review entries in financial system in accordance to established practice and standards
• Analyse to ensure correct allocations and correct mistakes via bank reconciliation process
• Check and approve overtime data and submit to HR/salary department
• Supply line management with asset numbers (plant, equipment) in line with policy and procedures
• Analyse asset purchases for the month within classification structure
• Ensure assets have been registered and tagged on an ongoing basis
• Report anomalies to the Manager Financial Management Key Knowledge & Skills

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER - RADIATION AND REACTOR THEORY (NORTH WEST)

Work Description
The candidate will be involved in the development and implementation of computational methods for the applied radiation and nuclear reactor science, with a particular focus on numerical modelling of medical isotope irradiation with existing and novel computational tools and very strong emphasis on optimization of the irradiation planning. The candidate will contribute to implementation of the developed methods in OSCAR-5 reactor computational framework and their verification and validation. Some aspects of the project may involve data science and Machine Learning methods. The candidate will also be responsible for reporting on work completed in departmental meetings, assisting with Honours, Masters and PhD student co-supervision. The candidate will contribute in authoring research reports and publications as well as presenting at conferences and workshops. Candidate is expected to produce a minimum of two papers or reports (internally or externally peer reviewed) per year.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- The candidate should hold a PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Physics, Applied Mathematics or Operations Research obtained within the past five years. The candidate should not be older than 45 years at the time of application.
- Experience in developing and implementing numerical algorithms, applying optimization, Machine Learning and data science methods, Python programming skills as well as experience of using computational codes utilized in Nuclear Engineering (MCNP, Serpent, SCALE, etc.), would be an advantage.
- Minimum of one accepted publication in the last five years with additional publications an added advantage. Publications should be in the area of Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Physics, Applied Mathematics or Operations Research.
- Good English communication skills, both oral and written, are a prerequisite.
Salary and Application
The value of the postdoctoral fellowship is ZAR 450 000.00 per annum (paid as a monthly taxable salary) with the option of renewal for two more years based on performance in the first year.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER - RADIOLABELLING ORGANIC CHEMISTRY (NORTH WEST)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the area of radiolabelling (organic chemistry), in the Applied Radiation Department at the Research & Innovation Division of the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (NECSA). The successful candidate will engage in full-time postdoctoral research projects that are funded by NTP with the focus of developing diagnostic and therapeutic molecules for cancer management.
Work Description
- The candidate will develop new synthesis routes for the preparation of bioactive compounds and radio-therapeutics with known biological activities.
- The candidate will perform synthesis of new linkers and attach them to the bioactive compounds.
- The candidate will fully characterise the synthesised compounds using various spectrometric and spectroscopic analytical techniques.
- The candidate will radiolabel the molecules and perform cell uptake and stability studies.
- The candidate will also be responsible for reporting the completed work in group meetings, assisting with mentoring of Masters and PhD student’s.
- The candidate will contribute in authoring research reports and publications and presenting at conferences and workshops.
- The candidate is expected to publish a minimum of two papers (internally or externally peer reviewed) per year.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- The candidate should hold a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry obtained within the past five years. The candidate should not be older than 45 years at the time of application.
- Solid knowledge of organic synthesis reactions e.g. carbon-carbon coupling reactions, amide forming reactions, halogenation reactions, protection and deprotection reactions etc.
- Solid knowledge of various analytical techniques such as thin layer chromatography (TLC), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, high performance liquid chromatography hyphenated with mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) and Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy.
- Experience in handling radioactivity, molecular modelling and knowledge of some radio-analytical techniques (such as liquid scintillation counter and gamma spectroscopy) and radiation detecting techniques would be an added advantage.
- Minimum of one accepted publication in the last five years with additional publications will also be an added advantage. Publications should be in the area of organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry or radiochemistry.
- Good English communication skills, both oral and written, are a prerequisite.
