About Vaalputs
Vaalputs established in 1986 as the national, near surface, radioactive waste disposal facility that serves South Africa’s needs for disposing of low-level radioactive waste generated by nuclear industrials. It is situated in the Northern Cape about 100km south of Springbok and is currently managed and operated by Nuclear Liabilities Management department (NLM) of Necsa. The National Radioactive Waste Disposal Institute (NRWDI) is in the process of obtaining a nuclear installation license for Vaalputs and, once this has been accomplished, the incumbent will be reporting within the NRWDI structures.
Job Profile:
To develop, implement, maintain and audit quality, risk and safety systems including the department's operational activities. Manage the IMS (Intergraded Management System) and audit processes within the department in accordance with the NLM IMS, ISO 9001:2015, RD-0034, and SHEQ-INS-XXXX series requirements.

- Control of documents and records in department.
- Schedule and conduct internal audits and job observations/self-assessments of operational tasks in the department to ensure compliance to license and operational requirements.
- Schedule and conduct external audits on e.g. suppliers and waste generators.
- Management of non-conformances and Category 1, 2 & 3 events/incidents by coordinating investigation meetings and preparing investigation and close out reports.
- Compile and regularly update Action Plans for Inspections and Audits, management review meetings, IMS objectives and facility specific action plans.
- Involved in reporting: Monthly, quarterly and annual reports for the departments.
- Registering and handling of customer complaints and satisfaction.
- Compile and update Risk register and involved in verifying the Performance monitoring for the department.
- Plan and perform management review meetings at least annually.
- Maintaining status lists for NCR's, PAR's, CAR's and ensure that the department's documents status list is maintained.
- Schedule training and awareness on quality / IMS related SHEQ-INS-XXXX series of documents.
- Training and examining of department support staff in works instructions as to competency level.
- Stop start facilities if non-compliance to statutory and regulatory requirements has been detected which can endanger the lives of personnel and the environment.
- Perform quality control activities as prescribed in the facility specific QA system (I.e. surveillances, acceptance verifications, etc.); and
- Facility specific Ad-hoc asks and / or operational support.

- Knowledge in ISO 9001 and I or ISO 17025.
- Knowledge of applicable SHEQ legislation, regulation and standards.
- Technical background of processes and systems within the department.
- Good report writing and record keeping skills.

- Good knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Access.
- Interpretation of raw data to do trend analysis.

Qualifications & Experience:
- Relevant National Diploma preferably in Quality Management or Environmental Management.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the nuclear regulated field, including quality assurance.
- SABS ISO training will be advantageous.
