Job Profile:
To manage waste disposal activities of the national radioactive waste disposal site (Vaalputs) in accordance with the Nuclear Installation License (NIL28), SHEQ-requirements, international norms, standards and best practice and all other applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.

People Management
- Manage and provide verbal and written feedback to senior manager with regards to the day-to-day activities at Vaalputs.
- Implement performance management at all levels.
- Ensure good housekeeping at the Vaalputs disposal facility.
- Ensure all staff are trained and skilled to do their work.
Operations Management
- Plan, schedule and monitor activities provide feedback through progress reporting.
- Plan and schedule waste deliveries from waste suppliers and confirm compliance with the Vaalputs waste acceptance criteria.
- Manage the general maintenance of farm, roads and fences.
- Manage Vaalputs vehicle fleet and fuel reserves.
- Oversee nature conservation and vermin control.
Compliance Management (Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality)
- Implement the risk management plan and risk reduction strategies.
- Manage ISO 9001:2008 and 1400:2004 certifications.
- Develop and maintain an integrated SHEQ-management system (IMS).
- Manage compliance with NIL28 nuclear installation license.
- Manage compliance with the Necsa Group SHEQ-system.
- Establish and maintain a safety culture for Vaalputs.
- Ensure compliance with BBS requirements.
- Oversee the system for reporting safety statistics.
- Manage reporting, investigation and close-out of nuclear occurrences, safety related incidents/accidents and quality related non-conformities.
Financial Management
- Ensure compliance with the Necsa financial policies, procedures and systems.
- Compile annual budget in accordance with the Necsa Group budget guidelines.
- Schedule and control budget expenditure.
- Manage tender projects within financial and tender procedures. Manage the petty cash of Vaalputs.
- Execute disposal operations within contract financial agreements.
Stakeholder Management
- Liaise with waste suppliers (Eskom (Koeberg), Necsa and other).
- Liaise with other stakeholders (local municipalities, NGO’s, schools, local farmer’s associations, anti-nuclear groups, etc.)
- Collaborate with the NNR during quarterly NNR inspections.
- Oversee social investment initiatives at Vaalputs in compliance with the Necsa Group.
- Ensure that customer requirements are attended to and respond accordingly.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
KEY KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Sound technical knowledge of radioactive waste disposal principles and practises
- Knowledge of Nuclear Installation License and SHEQ-system requirements
- Ability to plan work activities in a multi-disciplined work environment
- Ability to promote and maintain good interpersonal relationships with superiors, subordinates and clients
- Ability to interface with public entities and authorities on radioactive waste disposal activities

Qualifications & Experience:
- BTech / BSC in Chemistry / Applied Science.
- 5 years’ experience operating a facility under a Nuclear Installation License.
- Three (3) years’ management experience in an operational environment.
- Experience in developing and managing an integrated SHEQ-system.
