NECSA is a State Owned Company (SOC) in terms of the Companies Act and derives its mandate from the Nuclear Energy Act of 1999 responsible for undertaking and promoting research and development in the field of nuclear energy and radiation sciences and for the commercial exploitation of nuclear technology. NECSA engages in commercial business mainly through its two 100% owned commercial subsidiaries NTP Radioisotopes (Pty) Ltd. and Pelchem (Pty) Ltd. NTP is responsible for a range of radiation-based products and services for health care, life sciences and industry, whilst Pelchem supplies fluorine and fluorine-based products. JOB PROFILE
To provide strategic leadership for the NECSA Group to position it as a global leading provider of nuclear research, technology and products. The incumbent would be accountable to the NECSA Board of Directors for implementing the group strategy and ensuring the financial sustainability of the Group, fulfilling the legislated mandate of NECSA and meeting both workforce and public safety requirements by means of:
- Ensuring high quality research outputs;
- Driving experimental development, industrialization and commercialization of technology;
- Identification of new business opportunities and partnerships locally and internationally, in particular positioning the Group to play a meaningful role in the forthcoming nuclear build programme;
- Guiding corporate and product marketing locally and abroad, to strengthen the NECSA brand and to grow sales and research grant income;
- Promoting strategic and mutually supportive relationships between NECSA and its subsidiary companies;
- Ensuring alignment of subsidiaries strategies to the NECSA group strategy.
- Ensuring a top quality nuclear licensing capability;
- Ensuring globally benchmarked best practice in nuclear safety, security and safeguards;
- Facilitating business and organizational transformation and innovation;
- Developing and Driving NECSA Group strategic human resource management through the Development and implementation of human resources policies, programmes and strategies;
- Promoting conditions for a healthy, learning and innovative organization able to function effectively in turbulent environment;
- Promoting good governance and a high standard of ethics;
- Promoting the public understanding of nuclear technology;
- Building sound stakeholder relations, at local, national and international levels; and
- Driving an organisational performance based culture through Ensuring performance of organisational divisions and staff according to objectives and performance targets.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge and skills:
- Strategic leadership capacity.
- Strong Business Acumen.
- Multidisciplinary technology management.
- Knowledge of the global nuclear industry.
- Understanding of the National System of Innovation and the SA nuclear industry.
- Knowledge of nuclear and radiation science and technology and the applications thereof.
- Knowledge of the Nuclear and related policy and regulatory environment.
Competent in:
- Strategic and analytical thinking.
- People management.
- Leadership skills.
- Excellence orientation.
- High performance.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A minimum requirement of a post graduate degree in either Engineering or Science.
- An MBA/MBL is a desirable requirement for this position.
- At least 15 years’ experience in technology focused organizations or companies.
- At least 10 years’ management experience, including 5 years in an executive position.
