PROJECTS AND FINANCE ACCOUNTANT
The South African National Space Agency (SANSA) is a public entity under the National Department of Science and Innovation (DSI). The following opportunity exists at the Space Operations programme situated in Hartebeeshoek, Gauteng to be filled by an individual with the relevant skills, drive, competencies, qualifications and who puts the interests of the nation first, has a commercial mind-set, thinks like our customers, knowledge driven and people centric.
Finance and Project Accountant (permanent)
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for accounting tasks in compiling the monthly management accounting. Ensure the Debtors Master file maintenance with multiple currencies, timeous, accurate invoicing, and collection of debt. Balancing of the general ledger to the fixed assets register, maintenance of the fixed assets register with additions, asset tags, disposals, annual impairment testing, locations, condition, and custodians. Complete general ledger reconciliations for review and process all journal entries for approval. Aid Project managers in finance accounting. Complete the monthly commitments schedule.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Finance or Accounting qualification
- 3+ years’ experience in similar role with extensive assets, projects and finance experience
- Sage X3 experience (fixed assets and financial modules)
- Commercial experience preferable
- Knowledge of the following is advantageous: The applicable legislative and regulatory framework • Public Finance and Management Act (PFMA), National Treasury Regulations and guidelines knowledge, and GRAP knowledge • Departmental accounting, planning and budgeting policies and procedures • Assets policies and procedures knowledge • Assets systems (manual / automated) • Principles and practice of asset management • Tools and techniques for asset verification • Principles and practice of asset valuations • Financial project management experience and applicable GRAP knowledge • Principles and practice of accounting • Knowledge of reconciliations
- MS Office (word and excel).
- A valid drivers’ license
Key areas of responsibility will include but not limited to:
- Maintain financial transactions and information on Sage X3
- Financial accounting of projects, journals, cost centres, reconciliations, budgets and subsistence & travel (S&T)
- Debtors and Revenue
- Foreign exchange transactions
- Asset accounting and management
- Documentation, reporting and general tasks

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP (3-year contract position) Re-advertisement
The South African National Space Agency (SANSA) has a mandate, as outlined in the South African National Space Agency Act, 2008 (Act No 36 of 2008), to co-ordinate and integrate national space science and technology programmes and conduct long-term planning and implementation of space related activities in South Africa, for the benefit of the citizens of South Africa.
SANSA has the following opportunities situated in Hermanus, Western Cape to be filled by individual(s) with the relevant skills, drive, competencies, and qualifications. Activities undertaken at the SANSA Hermanus Facility include space science research, ground-based monitoring infrastructure, operational space weather, technology development and applications.
SANSA is seeking hardworking and dynamic South African citizens to fill the following position based in Hermanus Western Cape:
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP (3-year contract position)
The ideal candidates will have:
- A PhD obtained within the last 3 years (or will be submitting their PhD thesis for examination before July 2022)
- PhD should be in a space physics related field or is a support field to space physics (such as Computer Science, Solar Physics, Astrophysics, Physics, or Applied Mathematics)
- Preference will be given to candidates who would like to pursue solar physics research for their postdoctoral projects in areas such as solar irradiance measurements and models, satellite observations of the solar chromosphere, transient solar phenomena (i.e. space weather)
- Independent computer programming skills with a preference for IDL or Python
- The ability to work independently and as part of the team
The candidate should be:
- A South African citizen

Projects will be tailored to individuals, depending on skills and interest, and are not limited to any specific topic mentioned, however they must fit into the space science thematic areas.
