APPOINTMENT TYPE: Fixed-Term Contract – 12 Months
 
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The Stakeholder Engagement Coordinator operates within the Marketing and Communications Cluster of SANRAL, with a key focus on supporting the Western Region’s road infrastructure delivery programme. The role has a primary function of developing and implementing integrated internal and external communication and stakeholder engagement programmes, in accordance with the Agency’s priorities to effectively position and manage the Regional Communication and Stakeholder Relations function.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 
A Tertiary qualification in communications or an associated discipline; 
A minimum of 5 to 7 year’s experience in a stakeholder engagement role; 
A minimum 5 to 7 year’s experience providing strategic communications advice and services; 
Experience in leading project and/or specialist function activities; 
Excellent written and oral communication skills with a proven ability to write collateral tailored for different audiences; 
Proven ability to liaise effectively and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders; 
Ability to interpret complex information rapidly and accurately; 
Relevant experience gained in major organisations, government and/or consultancy; 
Demonstrated ability in dealing with conflict or avoiding potential conflicts. 
 
SKILLS AND COMPETENCY OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE: 
• People skills required to lead and inspire people to achieve the organisation’s stated goals; 
• The Stakeholder Engagement Coordinator needs to work effectively with a wide range of people at all levels of the organisation; 
• Ability to foster a positive work environment within the project teams and within the communications team by constructively participating in the way the team works together, to produce high quality communications consistent with enhancing SANRAL’s reputation in the community; 
• Ability to see the “big picture” beyond organisational boundaries; 
• Demonstration of political awareness and understanding government policies and programmes, especially in the transport sector; 
• Good organisational and time-management skills.

ROLE OUTLINE: 
• Leading and managing the coordination of consultation activities including community information sessions; 
• Providing regular reports on stakeholder relations and community consultation activities and giving advice on emerging consultation issues; 
• Providing project administration support to ensure good documentation of stakeholder contact to assist with project reporting; 
• Develop a deep understanding of SANRAL’s projects in the Region to deliver internal and external communications activities that align with overarching business strategies; 
• Deliver high quality communications material which demonstrates excellent writing skills, clarity of message and engagement with audiences; 
• Provide content for key internal & external communications channels; 
• Provide communications support to assist with the development of key stakeholder and community relationships and assist with competitively positioning the Region; 
• Working with the Regional Manager, project managers, alliance partners and contractors to implement stakeholder engagement and community relations strategies for specific projects and programmes; 
​• Coordinating consultation activities including community information sessions; 
• Assisting with measurement and evaluation of communications and community relations activities against strategy objectives; 
• Providing advice to project managers on managing complex and sensitive issues. 
• Assist the project teams in resolving conflict on projects 
• Create an enabling environment for successful project delivery 
 
TECHNICAL/FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES: 
• Ability to leverage multiple stakeholder relationships and build coalitions that foster project success; 
• Ability to maintain strong relationships with a range of external stakeholders including, local government, provincial governments, other state-owned entities, members of the community, civil society groups, and the private sector to ensure the successful implementation of strategic communications programmes; 
• Ability to think creatively, to work under pressure and recognise and respond to sensitive issues; 
• Ability to engage others and gain support and confidence of senior management and key stakeholders; and 
• Ability to put in place, working within the context of a team, information systems that meet the information requirements of all stakeholders.
