SECTION RANGER (WILDERNESS)

Description:

- National Diploma in Nature Conservation or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years relevant work relevant practical field experience of which three years must be management and supervisory experience.
- EMI Grade 2
- Driver's license is essential
- Computer literacy with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Supervision of contractors responsible for alien clearing, footpath construction & maintenance as well as management of tourism infrastructure and services.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, as well as conflict resolution, project management and liaison skills
- Working knowledge of the NEMA: Protected Areas Act, MLRA, ICMA and other relevant environmental legislation
- The ability to work under unfavourable and potentially hazardous/dangerous conditions

Responsibilities:
- Assist and give input into conservation planning and development plans for the section.
- To manage the conservation and rehabilitation of indigenous marine and terrestrial biodiversity of the section, including assisting with planning and implementation of control of alien/extralimital species and monitoring of key functions and processes.
- To manage fire in the section both as a tool for conservation purposes and to reduce risk to SANParks and neighbouring properties.
- To manage the impact of degradation on cultural heritage resources and provide input into the Cultural Heritage plan.
- To monitor the implementation of the Environmental Management Plans and ensure compliance.
- To ensure adequate control of visitor activities, and safety and security.
- To ensure all infrastructure in the section is maintained to adequate standards.
- To ensure the enforcement of good corporate governance and proactive risk management.
- To ensure the protection of the conservation estate and territorial integrity by enforcing compliance with the relevant conservation legislations.
- To manage the human capital of the section.
- To give input and assist in the management of the budget and asset control.
- To develop and maintain purposeful relationships with key stakeholders.

Requirements:
- Be in possession of a Post Graduate Degree in Information Technology or equivalent. Should have 5 years of experience in transforming and managing significant ICT services in a large organisation, preferably in a public service environment and should have 7 years in the ICT industry.

- A recognised 3-year tertiary qualification in environmental/natural resource management or similar.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in the biodiversity economy, community liaison, stakeholder facilitation and capacity building, enterprise development in the environmental context, and socio-economic models pertaining to the wildlife economy.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in multi-stakeholder project coordination
- Knowledge of all relevant conservation and environmental legislation and statutory processes (IDP, SDF). Clearly list the legislation and statutory processes you have knowledge of in your CV

INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

The Wilderness Section of the Garden Route Region is offering an Internship opportunity. Applications are hereby invited to apply for the below-mentioned field of study.
