FUSION CENTRE/CONTROL ROOM OPERATOR
 
A challenging vacancy currently exists for one (1) Fusion Centre/Control Room Operator Position at Addo Elephant National Park. This is a fixed-term contract ending March 2027.
Location ADDO ELEPHANT NATIONAL PARK
 
Requirements
  • Attach certified copies of all qualifications and identity documents.
  • A grade 12 certificate/NQF level 4.
  • 2 Years’ experience as conservation law enforcement official/para-military operations
  • Qualification in conservation studies will be an added advantage.
  • Field ranger training/conservation training/para-military training certificate will be an added advantage.
  • Computer Literacy certificate. An advanced computer skills certificate will be an added advantage.
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent administrative and record-keeping skills, a certificate will be an added advantage.
  • A healthy person with high-level mental alertness is required in this position.
  • The willingness to be based inside the park.
  • No criminal record.
 
Responsibilities
  1. Monitor organisation security systems- including but not limited to the access control and CCTV systems
  2. Receive notifications of security incidents and issues from all organisation personnel
  3. Relay notifications of incidents, issues etc. to the appropriate leadership positions
  4. Interface with conservation law enforcement to coordinate incident responses
  5. Dispatch conservation/law enforcement/security officers to investigate alarms and respond to incidents, escalate as procedure states and to the best of own judgement
  6. Notify emergency services when external response is required; coordinate with security to ensure services have immediate access to the space
  7. Monitor the performance of security system elements and report deficiencies to the Security Manager and the organisation’s senior personnel
  8. Coordinate communication between relevant role-players and stakeholders
  9. Command and Control support and facilitation of ground operations when incidents occur.
  10. Support ground operations in the park and at the regional level where necessary
  11. Support conservation services, law enforcement, tourism services, technical department services, security services, scientific services etc.
  12. Track the location and activities of all rangers/field staff assigned to their shift
  13. Applies the appropriate professionalism, maturity and tact to manage the incident
  14. Adheres to and always promotes organisational policies and procedures
  15. Communicates concerns, process improvement ideas or other opportunities for improvement to the team
  16. Law enforcement by assisting with the control of visitors, as well as, staff and the assimilation, interpretation, and dissemination of information.
  17. To maintain law, order and discipline for staff members, communities, and guests.
  18. To maintain a high standard of administration.
  19. Inspection and cleanliness of operations room building and equipment.

RANGER SERGEANT
 
A challenging vacancy currently exists for one (1) Ranger Sergeant position at Addo Elephant National Park in the Zuurberg section. This is a 20-month fixed-term contract.
Location ADDO ELEPHANT NATIONAL PARK
 
Requirements
  • A grade 12 certificate/ Certificate (NQF level 6) in Conservation or Natural Resource Management or equivalent
  • Field Ranger Basic or Advanced Training
  • A firearm competency certificate
  • EMI Grade 5 minimum requirement
  • A National Diploma in Conservation management or related fields will serve as an added advantage
  • 5 years of field experience.
  • Previous practical experience with regards to natural resource management as mentioned in the second key performance area.
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills
  • Code 8 driver’s licence.
  • A healthy person with a high level of general fitness and mental alertness is required in this position.
  • The willingness to be based at an outpost throughout the park
  • Should be Firearm Competent and a certificate should be provided. (NB: valid SAPD Competency Certificate; Original Training Competency Certificate for Business Unit Standards; PFTC Statement of results indicating the unit standards for Law and Business Purpose Unit Standards.)
  • Must be physically fit and be prepared to undergo a fitness test before the interview.
  • Must be willing to undergo a medical exam.
 
Responsibilities
  • To assist the Section Ranger with all management related aspects in order to deliver on the biodiversity, area integrity and cultural heritage mandate.
  • To assist in the daily control of the financial management of the section.
  • To assist with the management of assets control within the section.
  • To assist in maintaining purposeful relationships with key Stakeholders.
  • To ensure the enforcement of good corporate governance and proactive risk management.
  • To supervise the human capital of the section (training, mentoring and coaching).
  • To ensure effective patrolling for maximum area coverage.
  • To ensure compliance with state-of-area integrity management standards
  • To enforce law, order and discipline through all relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • To assist in visitor management and safety when required.
