INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR: TOURISM SPECIALIST VISION 2040
Park: Groenkloof (Head Office)
 
Description:
SANParks requires the services of a Tourism Specialist as an Independent Contractor for its Vision 2040 project. This is a fixed-term contract of 12 months and will be based at Groenkloof National Park, Pretoria.
 
Requirements:

  • Be in possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism Management, Conservation, or related field as recognized by SAQA
  • Should have 15 years of experience in tourism industry.
  • Knowledge of the policy and regulations environment.
  • Have a good understanding of emerging technologies in tourism industry.

Responsibilities:
  • Tourism planning and development: destination analysis and marketing research, including knowledge of niche markets e.g., cultural heritage, tourism development, sustainable tourism practices.
  • Tourism economics (supply, demand, pricing, economic impact) and concomitant organisation design implications.
  • Provide expert inputs at various intervals in the Vision 2040 project, including support to the Vision development process.
  • Phase 2: Expert advice in respect of the design of the organisation that can deliver the mandate and Vision 2040.
  • Assist the Project Management in co-opting capacity required to deliver the assignment such as facilitating secondments or in-kind donations of time.
 
Phase 1:
In respect of Tourism and Tourism Specialist content:
  • Undertake literature review (internal and external documents) and conduct interviews with identified Executive and Senior Managers to finalise the simplified and accessible status quo publication of the Vision and Mandate.
  • Enhance the Vision and Strategy of the organisation.
  • Identify relevant tourism stakeholders and support the consultation process with tourism stakeholders (including internal stakeholders) to develop (co-create) the scenario-based Vision 2040 and to obtain buy- in from stakeholders into the vision and process.
  • Support the development of the Vision 2040 strategy (in accordance with the backwards mapping process).
  • Assist the extended Vison 2040 project team in the development of 2025-2030 strategic plan and 2025-26 Annual Performance Plan this plan must give effect to the Vison 2040 ambition but must also still be aligned with NDP 2030 and the Medium-Term Strategic Framework for the corresponding period.
  • Assist the Strategy and Business Performance Management team (and COO) in the development of the 2025-2030 Strategic Plan and 2025-26 Annual Performance Plan - this plan must give effect to the Vision 2040 ambition but must also still be aligned with NDP 2030 and the Medium-Term Strategic Framework for the corresponding period.
 
Phase 2:
General:
  • Assist the Project Manager with mobilizing additional resources (financial and skills) for the project.
  • Provide input to progress reports to EXCO, the relevant steering committee, and the Board at agreed intervals
  • Liaise with and facilitate buy-in and support from relevant government departments, including the Shareholder (DFFE); Treasury; the Department of Tourism; the Department of Agriculture; the Department of Small Business; the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform; the Department of Public Works (landowner); etc.
  • Facilitate the development of a project website.
