Un-armed Environmental Monitors Fixed Term Contract Up To 31 March 2022

Description:
Vacancies currently exists for four (4) Environmental Monitors at the West Coast National Park. The successful candidate will report to the relevant Section Rangers. The above stated positions are on a fixed term contract up until the 31 March 2022. The focus and conditions of the Expanded Public Works Programme is local employment and as such only candidates from the following communities are permitted to submit applications: Langebaan, Vredenburg, Hopefield, Saldanha , St Helena Bay and Paternoster .
The total remuneration package is a basic salary as per the Expanded Public Works Programme rates of R199 per day.
The successful candidate will have to provide their own transport to the office in Langebaan, there is no official accommodation available in the park.

Requirements:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and / or abilities required for the job:
- Grade 12
- Valid driver’s license
- Basic Computer literacy
- Availability to work flexible hours e.g. weekends, public holidays
- Must be in good physical health
- Practical experience in a similar working environment will be an added advantage,
Responsibilities:
- General maintenance and upkeep of the terrain and gardens including visitor accommodation, day visitor facilities and access control points;
- Perform cleaning duties including ablution blocks, picnic sites and day visitor areas to prescribed standards of cleanliness;
- General maintenance duties including the inspection, repair, maintenance and replacement of watering system and sewerage systems at visitor facilities;
- Perform daily services throughout the park providing a clean, safe and pleasant environment for staff and visitors,
- Refuse removal.
- Assist with basic traffic management and parking of vehicles.
- Assist with information provision.
- Participation in regular patrols (foot, vehicle, boat), applying and administering regulations within the boundaries of the Park, regulation of visitors’ behaviour and incident recording, interpretation and dissemination of information.
- Assist with natural resources management – including the implementation and monitoring of indigenous and invasive fauna and flora projects, footpath, soil erosion and rehabilitation management systems.
- Assistance with implementation and administration of approved conservation policies.
- Assist with management of cultural historic nodes and visitor facilities.
- Assist with the maintenance of tools, equipment, vehicles and infrastructure.
- General administration – including timesheets, logbooks and reports.
- Assistance with monitoring and recording of resource management data.
