Park: Table Mountain National Park
 
Description:
Vacancies currently exist for 38 Tourism Monitors in the Table Mountain National Park Biodiversity Social Projects. The total remuneration package is a basic salary as per the Expanded Public Works Programme rate of R190.00 per day.
Successful candidates will have to provide their own accommodation/travelling as there is no official accommodation in the park.

Requirements:
  • Matric/Grade 12/NCV Level 4
  • Relevant environmental field related National Diploma would be advantageous
  • Aged between 18 - 35 years
  • Language proficiency in English and any other local language.
  • Preference will be given to applicants of local communities
  • Clear criminal record.
  • Computer Competency (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Computer literacy levels (MS Word, Excel) will be tested where applicable
  • Passing of fitness trial which includes (dependent on the deployment activities):
    • 2,4 km run in 12 minutes or less
    • Ability to do 30 push-ups and 30 sit-ups in under a minute
    • Successful candidates are then granted an interview
  • Successfully candidate will have to undergo medical fitness, polygraph (where applicable) through a Medical Practitioner.
  • Availability to work flexible hours e.g. weekends, public holidays as and when required

Responsibilities:
  • Crime prevention activities.
  • Crime response.
  • Search and rescue operations.
  • Lifesaving skills and First Aid.
  • Visitor information and guidance (providing tourists with information on safest routes and areas).
  • Compliance regulation (e.g. littering, dogs, bicycles, noise, alcohol).
  • Research support (e.g. crime statistics, tourism, environmental requirements).
  • Support in field data collection of environmental crime and analysis.
  • Control of invasive species - reporting where extensive; removing where a minor presence.
  • Monitoring and repair of security and environmental risks (e.g. paths, erosion, fire, fencing, signage).
  • Back-up capacity for emergencies (e.g. mopping up after fires).
  • Litter management.
