ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECT LEAD

Description:
A position exists for a one year fixed term contract working within the office of the Managing Executive of the KNP to assist with implementing initiatives related to the KNP Turnaround Strategy.
Terms:
  • One year fixed term contract.
  • The incumbent need not be based within the KNP but will be required to spend time within the KNP. Accommodation only will be provided whilst in the Park.
  • All other associated costs, aside from travel within the Park, or travel to meetings outside the Park from the Park to be covered by the incumbent.
  • A cellphone allowance will be provided.
 
Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's degree from a University with relevant business, commerce or tourism post-graduate qualification.
  • At least 15 years in senior management combined experience in the public and private sector.
  • Experience in the tourism product development and events industry.
  • Cross-sectoral economic development experience.
  • Experience in providing technical assistance to the public sector.
  • Experience in grant and loan funding project packaging.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Review and prioritise existing KNP economic opportunities project pipeline.
  • Scope and manage the implementation of different economic development opportunities.
  • Work with relevant SANParks and KNP Management teams to prepare projects for delivery.
  • Assist with the drafting of procurement terms of reference for procurement of suppliers or operators for identified projects and opportunities.
  • Where relevant work with the SANParks BDU team in scoping projects for PPP's.
  • Review and finalize SANParks KNP Events protocol and procure and launch income-generating events.
  • Assist with the scoping and implementation of SANParks product development initiatives.
  • Assist with scoping potential economic development initiatives on traditional authority land for possible inclusion in the KNP.
  • Work with the Wilderness Trails in preparing a Business plan for the turnaround of Wilderness Trails.
  • Cooperate with small business and economic development agencies in scoping projects and accessing funding for project implementation.
  • Arrange workshops as required.
  • Prepare monthly reports on project progress.
