The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for is looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated, professional and responsible person to contribute to departmental strategic objectives through leading and managing a section of the zoo which consists of a specific group of animal taxa according to best husbandry and welfare practices.
This position requires a degree in Zoology, Nature Conservation, Game Ranch Management, Animal Health or equivalent qualification at NQF 7, as well as Commercial Dive license.  A postgraduate degree or equivalent qualification at NQF 8,Commercial Dive Master qualification will be an added advantage. This position also requires 6 years of work experience in taxa, of which 3 year’s should be in a supervisory position/s.
 
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: Specialise knowledge of the animal welfare, care and ethical requirements of the taxa concerned; In-depth understanding of national and global biodiversity conservation strategies;  Knowledge about legislation pertaining to biodiversity conservation; Knowledge on the management of organisational finance; Project management knowledge and skills; A good understanding of the World Zoo and Aquaria Conservation and Animal Welfare Strategies; A good understanding of the South African National Standard for Zoo and Aquarium Practice and must have a good understanding of Health and Safety in the work place. The possession of a valid driver’s licence with at least one-year practical driving experience.

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) requires an enthusiastic, dedicated, professional and responsible person to support in the performance of fabrication of deferent steel works and structures within the SANBI / NZG according to standards.
 This position requires a Grade 10, job specific qualification, or equivalent qualification with NQF 2 with 5 years of work experience in the relevant field, or a Grade 12, job specific qualification or equivalent qualification with NQF 4 with 4 years of work  experience in the relevant field. Higher certificate in Welding or equivalent qualification at NQF 5 will be an added advantage.
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: Exposure to the use of relevant machinery; and construction of steel structures and maintenance; be able to operate and function under pressure and after hours whilst being quality and safety conscious; proven ability to work with a diverse team and independently; be able to operate within the framework of the approved standard operating procedures; good planning, organizing, interpersonal, time management, and problem solving skills; excellent communication skills (both verbal and written); computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, Internet and Outlook) will be advantageous. This position requires the applicant to conduct physical labour and work outdoors in inclement weather. Applicants must be in possession of a valid driver’s licence.
 
Key Performance Responsibilities include:
  • Perform Operational Functions;
  • Support in the Completion of Minor Projects;
  • Oversee Staff and Administration;
  • Comply with Health and Safety Requirements; and
  • Perform administration, human resources, and stakeholder relations responsibilities.

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) requires an enthusiastic, dedicated, professional and responsible person to manage the estate, facility and support service functions. management of waste, horticulture, landscaping and cleaning services within National Zoological Garden. Managing the daily operations of the unit including staff schedules and allocating responsibilities and activities to personnel reporting to the unit. Development of maintenance plans and standard operating procedures related to the unit. Supervising all ground and providing training, toolbox meetings, day-to-day feedback, and performance reviews.
 
The successful candidate must be in a possession of a degree in Horticulture or equivalent qualification at NQF 7. A post graduate qualification at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 8 years of work experience in the relevant field, 4 years of which should be in first line management position(s).
 
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: experience/exposure to tourism, nature-based tourism, management, urban conservation, wildland fires, In-depth understanding of national and global biodiversity conservation, knowledge about legislation pertaining to biodiversity conservation, management of organizational finance, project management. Knowledge about Government Human Resource and procurement management policies. must have a good understanding of health and safety in the work place; must have excellent customer service knowledge and experience and be able to work with diverse team and under pressure whilst being quality, cost, and safety conscious; must have strong leadership and management skills; extensive knowledge and experience of legislation, policies, procedures, processes, practices, systems, and frameworks related to environmental management; advanced planning, organizing, interpersonal, and problem solving skills; excellent communication skills (both verbal and written); excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including  ( Global Positioning System , MS Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook) will be advantageous. The possession of a valid driver’s license with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.
