SANBI offers basic annual salary of R308 154.00 plus 37% in lieu of benefits
 
The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to provide support on SANBI’s implementation and management of the Monitoring, Evaluation, Reflection and Learning (MERL) plan of the GEF 7 project. The support will entail the development of the MERL framework, monitoring, collecting, and documenting key lessons within the biodiversity economy and biodiversity stewardship workstream, drawing from the three GEF 7 project nodes.
A national diploma in Natural Sciences, Ecology, or equivalent qualification at NQF 6 with 4 years of work experience in the relevant field or an advanced diploma or a degree in Natural Sciences, Ecology, or equivalent qualification at NQF 7 with 2 years of work experience in the relevant field. A postgraduate degree in Natural Sciences, Ecology, or equivalent qualification at NQF 8 will be an added advantage.
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position:  in-depth knowledge of biodiversity stewardship and conservation interventions; knowledge of monitoring, evaluation, reflection and learning; stakeholder engagement and relationship building; understanding of national and global biodiversity conservation; knowledge of protected area legislations; knowledge of biodiversity economy; knowledge of the science-policy-practice interface; project and time management knowledge and skills; good interpersonal and problem solving skills; excellent communication skills (both verbal and written); computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook).  The possession of a valid driver’s license with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.
 
Key Performance Responsibilities include:
  • Support the development and implementation of the GEF 7 Monitoring, Evaluation, Reflection and Learning plan;
  • Support communities in project nodes to share experiences, draw on national best practices and disseminate learning;
  • Ensure efficient and maintained communication between and amongst the SANBI Biodiversity Stewardship team, the node coordinators and stakeholders in the nodes;
  • Provide project management support to the Assistant Director: Biodiversity Stewardship; and
  • Provide support with coordination of practice.
