SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL AIDS COUNCIL (SANAC)
 
he South African National AIDS Council Trust (the SANAC Trust) leads South Africa’s response to the national HIV, TB & STIs epidemics. The Trust is building a dynamic team that can facilitate its effective leadership of the national response. We are seeking a Junior Communications Officer to be based in our offices in Hatfield, Pretoria.

Reporting to: Communications Manager 
Location: Pretoria
Grading: B4
Duration: 3 years (Renewable subject to funding availability)
          
Purpose of the job
The Junior Communication Officer will work under the responsibility of the Communication Manager. S/he will be responsible for supporting the design and implementation of the communications strategy. S/he will support the design and implementation of communications related actions developed by SANAC Trust staff, more especially in the fields of capacity-building, networking and capitalisation of knowledge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist to provide a consistent and compelling digital presence, with a view to increasing online engagement.
  • Proactively ensure website copy is current and up-do date and manage the web updating process by guiding and assisting content contributions and by preparing and writing copy for web pages.
  • Coordinate the compilation of the organisational Newsletter.
  • Maintain blogs, news, video and user groups and Twitter, YouTube and Facebook and write copy/tweets and issue regular relevant messages or tweets to maximize social networking success.
  • Provide integration of digital media with the web, including developing and producing podcasts, audio/video, photography and digital media.
  • Provide regular reports and analysis on web and digital media usage and trends using Google Analytics and on-line sources and advice on future developments and opportunities and the direction of web and digital delivery.
  • Research best practices on web marketing and new media, including email campaigns, online newsletters, search engine optimization/marketing, podcasting and RSS feeds.
  • Contribute to the messaging and other marketing and communications plans of the NSP.
 
 
Qualifications, Skills and Experience 
  • A three-year Diploma or Degree in Journalism, Communications, PR or related field from a recognised and accredited tertiary education institution.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a communications environment.
  • Good writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Basic knowledge of content management systems, especially WordPress.
  • Basic knowledge of Google Analytics and Google webmaster tools
  • Experience with social media, email and online communication platforms
  • Must have previous experience with web, e-communications, and other multimedia systems.
  • Basic knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques.
  • Knowledge of social media monitoring tools & marketing skills.
  • Passionate about the Internet.
  • Flexible and “can do” attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Must have a driver’s licence and be able to drive (the successful candidate will be tested).
  • Must be willing to travel at short notice and for long distances by road or air travel.
  • South African citizenship is required
