FISHING VESSEL SURVERYOR- PERMANENT
GRADING (D2)

The position reports to the Principal Officer
JOB PURPOSE
To ensure fishing vessels, seafarers in the fishing industry and maritime service providers are compliant with applicable maritime legislation and relevant maritime Conventions; to give effect to the objectives of the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA), the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Labour Organization (ILO) Instruments and the Food and Agriculture Organization FAO)

REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Fisherman Grade 2 or Skipper Fishing> 24m (Limited Waters) / Chief Engineer (Fishing)
- In possession of a valid driver's license and own vehicle
- Preferred Medical Clearance Certificate – obtained from a SAMSA approved medical practitioner
- Ability to travel as and when required.
Experience
- Maritime/Fishing Sea going experience for a period of 7 years related work experience.
- Previous vessel surveying experience/ Skipper of a fishing trawler would be an added advantage.
- Technical knowledge of fishing safety and pollution prevention practices and standards.
- General knowledge of national and international maritime legislation.
