Role Mandate
To develop, lead and manage the overall IFLOMA strategic operations including forestry/sawmilling/processing/fibre/ sales and marketing to ensure achievement of strategic objectives and business results. Furthermore, lead operations strategic key business drivers to improve product, ensure delivery of effective and efficient operations strategic plans in order to maximise profit and achieve sustainable business growth in accordance with SAFCOL Group/IFLOMA goals and objectives.




Key Accountabilities
  • Formulate and ensure implementation of IFLOMA strategy in line with SAFCOL Group and IFLOMA strategy
  • Translate organisational strategy into meaningful operational targets and strategic focus areas for business unit
  • Lead development and continuously update log, by-product marketing and sales strategy and ensure implementation thereof
  • Develop, manage and oversee implementation of product innovation plan for operations and increase financial value
  • Develop, manage and oversee implementation of forestry tactical and operational plans
  • Develop, manage and oversee execution of Annual Plan of Operation (APO) for planting, thinning, pruning and harvesting
  • Manage and oversee sales and marketing of all products and by-products produced at various operations
  • Provide monthly production and sales data for operations to benchmarking entities (i.e. Crickmay lumber index and inter-mill comparison)
  • Analyse monthly benchmarking data and reports received from entities, international publications and market intelligence service providers (i.e. Rens Bosman)
  • Provide regular feedback to operations on market development trends
  • Set budget for division including setting of goals and targets
  • Manage financials and associated controls in respect of division (effective cost control)
  • Prepare annual budget and forecast (capital expenditure, revenue and operational expenditure)
  • Plan, develop and monitor implementation for forest/processing operations annual budget and related projects expenditure
  • Analyse, assess and correct financial deviations, abnormalities and ensure prudent financial management in line with company policies
  • Implement financial controls to manage cash flow and all other financial transactions in line with approved budget and DoA
  • Continuously identify areas for improved efficiency and cost reduction
  • Develop growing stock and asset management policies
  • Monitor, oversee and ensure efficient management of growing stock, moveable and immoveable assets
  • Ensure FSC certification is maintained; oversee and ensure maintenance of TUP areas is less than 3%
  • Manage, oversee and ensure development, implementation of forestry/processing policies and procedures
  • Manage and oversee implementation of appropriate action/s to prevent repeat findings from internal and/or external audits
  • Develop, manage and oversee implementation of action/contingency plans to mitigate the effect of unforeseen events such as fires, strikes, machine breakdowns that have significant impact on forestry/processing, etc.
  • Lead, ensure implementation and monitor adherence to company SHEQ standards, practices and OSHACT requirements for operations
  • Manage staff in accordance with company HR policies, procedures and encourage frequent knowledge sharing between team members
  • Prepare and provide regular feedback and reports to Executive team, Board and key Shareholders related to divisional projects
  • Continuously lead, manage and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, i.e. Shareholder, Government, Provincial/ Local Leaders, Communities, Union, and Customers
 
Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12
  • BSc in Forestry/BTech in Forestry/Environmental Management/Business/Financial Management or Community Forestry (NQF Level 7)
  • Master’s Degree in Forestry/Business Administration/Business Leadership (NQF Level 9) will be an added advantage
  • 10 -12 Years’ experience in Forestry of which 5 years should be at a Senior Managerial or Executive level in a large organisation
  • Valid driver’s license
