NETWORK & SECURITY ENGINEER
Status: Permanent

Reporting Line: Manager: ICT Infrastructure
 
Role Mandate 
To effectively support the ICT network and server infrastructure services in support of strategic and operational business requirements. The incumbent will be expected to respond to, and document, any security threats, resolve technical faults and deliver real solutions in a cost-effective way.
 
Key Accountabilities
• Implement the infrastructure strategy, policies, procedures, and best practices for managing the ICT infrastructure including networks, access rights, servers, and communication systems
• Conduct testing and analysis of all components of network and server infrastructure including the execution of the Disaster Recovery plan
• Implementation of recommendations of internal and external auditors
• Assist in the development of long-term strategic plans for the development of ICT requirements within business to ensure the infrastructure development is aligned to the strategy
• Work with ICT teams, internal and external suppliers/clients to resolve highly technical or contentious issues and conflicts to ensure projects and work packages are within budget and delivered timeously
• Install, support, and manage the ICT infrastructure environment which includes WANs, servers and desktops/laptops, data centre, database administration, security and LAN operations
• Implement, maintain, and improve communication systems, including electronic communication systems
• Ensure all changes affecting the ICT Infrastructure take place in a controlled and auditable manner
• Manage the life cycle maintenance and replacement of ICT Infrastructure at end of life. Work with line manager to plan and implement upgrades needed to maintain service levels
• Managing the operational implementation of network hardware & systems management software for Cisco and Sophos systems
• Manage implementation projects upgrades and roll outs of network equipment and systems
• Assist with technical documentation and reports related to the role including but not limited to design, development, and implementation of systems
• Ensure the monitoring, management, and mitigation of infrastructure related risks
• Manage users on network, making sure they can access work-related applications
• Perform any other duties as may be required from time to time
• Monitor, maintain and improve an enterprise class ICT Infrastructure system based on the Microsoft platform and other industry leading systems over a large geographical area
• Provide in-depth technical expertise for both tactical and operational initiatives
• Troubleshoot, diagnose incidents and problems
• Monitor, Update and assist with asset management
• Proactively monitor and manage the network and security infrastructure - Install, Configure, Implement, Support, Repair & Administer Network Systems & Solutions
• Troubleshoot network performance, communications, and routing issues
• Ensure security support to Business Applications
• Handle routine technical, operational, and analytical tasks to support customer data systems
• An enthusiasm for staying up to date with the very latest updates about security threats and solutions
• Stay abreast of new technological developments and assess these technologies in terms of the potential effect they could have on the productivity and efficiency of business currently and in future

Minimum Requirements
• A Diploma or equivalent (NQF 6) in Network Engineering, Information Security, ICT, or related field
• Professional certifications in Windows Server, Network and Security
• Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) Windows 2008, 2012 or Azure
• A degree in Computer Science or related field – will be an added advantage
• Network Certification e.g., HP ASE - will be an added advantage
• Microsoft Certification: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator – will be an added advantage
• Cisco CCNA or higher – will be an added advantage
• A minimum of three (3) years in network security engineering and administration
• In-depth understanding of server and desktop/laptop hardware, operating systems, networks, firewalls, load balancers and communications systems
• Expert knowledge of server architecture and design, in-depth working experience with Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory design, security, and administration
• In-depth working experience of messaging (Microsoft Exchange in Microsoft 365 environment), archiving, unified communications
• In-depth knowledge of networking technologies and concepts. Good understanding of VMWare / Hyper V. Application of TOGAF or Zachman framework
• In-depth knowledge of ICT security, data protection and knowledge of international information / cyber security standards promoted by NIST, ISACA, ISO • Expertise across a variety of security products including firewalls, URL filtering, information security, virus protection, patch management and backups
• In-depth understanding of cloud and mobile technologies
• A good understanding of powershell scripting
• Extensive experience with Microsoft 365 applications including Microsoft SharePoint
• Working experience of CISCO systems / applications including Cisco Call Manager and Cisco VoIP phones
• ICT Governance (King IV, COBIT, etc.)
• Dell Server and Storage units, Dell Equal Logic’s SAN
• VMware ESX 5.1 and above
• Symantec Backup Exec, Quest Rapid Recovery, or any backup management software
• Developing and maintaining documentation of systems, maps, procedures, user, and technical information
• Testing of Disaster Recovery plans
• Network design and administration, data centre operations, database administration, server configurations
• SOPHOS and other firewalls

APPLICATIONS SUPPORT ENGINEER
Status: Permanent

Role Mandate
To assist with the support of all applications within the company especially the legacy systems. Collate and provide consolidated business information to management by utilizing the data available in the different applications.
 
Key Accountabilities
• Follow sound governance practices in terms of structures, systems, processes, policies, procedures, and controls that ensure delivery on strategic and operational objectives
• Assist in the identification and updating of the strategic and operational risks of the division via the strategic & operational risk registers
• Communication – proactively & accurately inform all relevant parties of important system issues/changes and outages
• User Support – investigate and resolve all support queries escalated by the operational support team
• Maintain customer satisfaction – consult with service providers, internal users, & clients to improve application performance
• Assist in maintaining the current reporting structure
• Enhance system functionality – ensure effective front-end and back-end functionality of applications
• Provide support and perform general technical troubleshooting for various applications with a focus on the legacy systems
• Provide administrative support to the Manager: Applications
• Administration of Mobile Devices management system
• Assist with planned maintenance tasks and change management
• Assist with the upgrade of existing applications to new versions which may require working closely with third party organisations as well as internal project teams. This may cover areas such as testing and implementation
• Keep a record of configuration changes and scheduling application updates
• Proactive systems health monitoring and conducting manual systems health checks of key applications like Oracle JDE & MicroForest
 
Minimum Requirements
• National Diploma (NQF 6) in Database Administration or related (IT) qualification
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Database Administration
• Application support experience – installation, configuration & upgrading of vendor based & custom applications
• Cloud services experience as part of application management delivery, specifically Microsoft 365 & Azure
• A basic knowledge of SQL, database structures, principles, and theories
• Microsoft 365 applications
• Experience in web-based platforms that are data centric and utilise APIs
• Ability to keep up with innovation in application design
• Advanced system / application installation and integration – will be an added advantage

MANAGER: ICT INFRASTRUCTURE
Status: Permanent
Location: Nelspruit Office
Grade: D3
Reporting Line: Chief Information Officer
 
Role Mandate
To lead and effectively manage and develop the ICT network and infrastructure services in support of strategic and operational business requirements. The incumbent needs to ensure optimum performance and efficient operation of the ICT Infrastructure and all associated technologies to deliver a secure and stable platform for the business.
 
Key Accountabilities
• Provide strategic direction for the Infrastructure unit which includes networks, data centre and security competencies
• Develop and implement the infrastructure strategy, policies, procedures and establish architectural standards and best practices for managing the ICT infrastructure including networks, access rights, servers, and communication systems
• Provide leadership in proactively planning, developing/installing, supporting, & managing ICT infrastructure environment which includes WANs, servers & desktops/laptops, data centre, database administration, security, & LAN operations
• Ensure that ICT is a reliable supplier of services to all internal clients, including strategically selecting services best provided in-house and services provided by third parties
• Implement, maintain, and improve communication systems, including electronic communication systems
• Conduct testing and analysis of all components of network and server infrastructure including the execution of the Disaster Recovery plan
• Stay abreast of new technological developments and assess these technologies in terms of the potential effect they could have on the productivity and efficiency of business currently and in future
• Create a strategy for establishing a secure & well managed enterprise environment in Azure, enabling Azure to become a critical part of the company’s network. Use Azure services to meet resiliency requirements
• Provide in-house training, as and when required
• Interface with business unit managers to define infrastructure support initiatives and solutions for improving service efficiency and effectiveness
• Assist in the development of long-term strategic plans for the development of ICT requirements within business to ensure the infrastructure development is aligned to the strategy
• Negotiate between ICT teams, internal and external suppliers/clients to resolve highly technical or contentious issues and conflicts to ensure projects and work packages are within budget and delivered timeously
• Lead and coordinate cloud infrastructure projects from a technology architecture perspective, ensuring that infrastructure development activities are consistent with accepted best practices
• Ensure all changes affecting the ICT Infrastructure take place in a controlled and auditable manner
• Provide in-depth technical expertise for both tactical and operational initiatives
• Plan, develop and lead the life cycle maintenance and replacement of ICT Infrastructure at end of life. Plan and implement upgrades needed to maintain service levels
• Ensure the monitoring, management, & mitigation of infrastructure related risks. Maintain the ICT risk register to ensure that risks are regularly reviewed, identified, assessed, reported, & mitigated in line with recommended best practices
• Develop the architecture blueprint for the business, aligned with the ICT strategy
• Perform any other duties as may be required from time to time
• Manage and build relationships with current and new infrastructure equipment and service providers according to business procurement policies
• Manage all relevant ICT Infrastructure contracts based on Service Level Agreements (SLA’s)
• Facilitate short-, medium- and long-term planning for ICT equipment procurement as well as the annual Infrastructure budget and reporting
• Monitor, maintain and improve an enterprise class ICT Infrastructure system based on the Microsoft platform and other industry leading systems over a large geographical area
• Manage all team members under supervision to ensure effective daily operations
• Coach and mentor team members on how to improve their own productivity using the organisation’s processes and systems & establish and maintain a succession plan for the team
• Together with the line manager for the area & HC, interview candidates to join the team & provide input into the recruitment decision
• Review & update the team’s role profiles at least on an annual basis to ensure that they are fit for purpose & contain all the accountabilities of each team member
• Review leave plans in place & make recommendations to the line manager to adjust the plans, if required and ensure all leave is captured on the Employee Self-Service System (ESS)
• Recommend to the line manager to initiate disciplinary processes for team members, when required & participate in collecting the evidence for the case
 
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (NQF 7) in Network Engineering, ICT, or related field
• Honours Degree in Computer Science or related field – will be an added advantage
• Project Management qualification – will be an added advantage
• Professional Certifications in Windows Server, Network and Security
• Architecture Framework e.g., TOGAF, Zachman
• Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) Windows 2008, 2012 or Core Infrastructure
• Microsoft Certified Solutions Architect Certification: Windows Server 2008, 2012, Azure or Power Platform
