JOB DESCRIPTION
Status: Five (5) year fixed term contract
Location: Pretoria/Nelspruit
Grade: F1
Reporting line: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
 
 
Role Mandate
To provide strategic financial support to the SAFCOL Group CEO and Executive Committee. Drive the financial, and risk management operations on all strategic matters, this includes the development of a financial and operational strategy, ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve the company’s assets and report accurate financial results. Oversee administrative, financial, risk and compliance requirements for the SAFCOL Group as well as maintaining good corporate governance.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of the Group Financial Strategy in accordance with the SAFCOL Group Strategy.
  • Ensure financial and commercial sustainability and viability of the SAFCOL Group.
  • Provide regular reporting and feedback to the CEO, EXCO and the Board on the financial performance of the SAFCOL Group.
  • Oversee and manage the financial wealth and health of the SAFCOL Group in accordance with International Best Practices.
  • Provide financial inputs on the business cases developed to ensure a sustainable long-term forestry business.
  • Oversee and direct the SAFCOL Group financial management and control to ensure sound business application. 
  • Oversee and manage the SAFCOL Group cash position by making financing and investment decisions.
  • Oversee, develop and manage the implementation of strategic objectives and deliverables in accordance with the Group Financial Strategy.
  • Drive and manage the financial reporting of the SAFCOL Group in accordance with IFRS, GAAP and requirements of the PFMA.
  • Lead and oversee the setting of budget for the SAFCOL Group.
  • Oversee the implementation of financial management and associated controls in respect of the SAFCOL Group (effective cost control).
  • Rigorously monitor expenditure against approved budgets across the SAFCOL Group and put measures in place to address variances.
  • Continuously identify areas for improved efficiency and reduced cost.
  • Provide clear direction to EXCO members on the Finance strategic plan and key focus areas and ensure their understanding and buy-in.
  • Analyse effectiveness of processes and systems in use in the division and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Review performance against balanced scorecard components as prescribed by the Board, discuss gaps and agree on action plans to close gaps.
  • Benchmark productivity of the division against industry standards and create measures to improve productivity.
  • Agree and manage service offerings and SLA’s with internal customers (agree annually and measure on a monthly basis).
  • Lead and oversee the development of the Strategic Risk Register and act as key sponsor for the Finance Risk Management Control Framework.
  • Review audit scopes defined by managers in the team and SAFCOL Internal Audit prior to audits commencing.
  • Review audit issue/finding logs to ensure adequate attention is given to closure within the agreed timelines.
  • Drive a culture of proactive compliance in the functioning of the SAFCOL Group.
  • Manage Finance divisional budgets, including sign-off on invoices, quotes within the delegation of authority, and escalate out of budgets or items higher than approved delegation to the next level manager.
  • Influence a wider range of external constituents and gain support for the company’s initiatives.
  • Proactively manage relationships and develop new partnerships.
  • Continuously manage and maintain a good relationship with key stakeholders, such as the Shareholder, Communities, Union, Financial Institutions, External Auditors and Customers etc.
  • Representation of the SAFCOL Group, in consultation with the CEO and Chairperson of the Board, in the public domain, media, parliament and in engagement with partners.
  • Oversee, develop and monitor the implementation of the necessary control systems to ensure that financial and other business risks are minimised.
  • Ensure reduction to elimination of irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure in the company.
  • Lead and oversee the automation of financial systems and processes.
  • Ensure that Group Finance appropriately provides financial advice and support to the SAFCOL Group.
  • Ensure that the SAFCOL Group Tax position is optimised.
  • Oversee, direct and ensure compliance to all statutory requirements.
  • Lead and oversee the audit process and position of the SAFCOL Group with external auditors.
  • Oversee, direct and ensure Supply Chain Management is in line with the Shareholder’s Compact and within required regulatory framework such as the PFMA and PPPFA.
  • Oversee and ensure that the SAFCOL Group’s financial policies, procedures and processes conform to the statutory requirements and financial regulations.
  • Execute all statutory duties in accordance with legislative requirements.
  • Oversee the submission of all statutory returns and documentation.
  • Lead, oversee and ensure that the SAFCOL Group financial statements and reports are produced accurately and timeously in accordance with the financial calendar.
  • Oversee and ensure sound and accurate financial statements, annual financial reports, and other information reports are in accordance to GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Oversee and ensure that the SAFCOL Group reports are accurate and in accordance with governing principles and with the required integrity.
  • Prepare and present the necessary financial management reports for utilisation by the CEO, EXCO and the Board.
  • Ensure the development of a high-performing team through embedding formal performance development and informal coaching.
  • Coach the Finance management team on how to conduct meaningful performance development discussions with their direct reports and ensure that they conduct the process effectively.
  • Establish and maintain a succession plan for the management team in the area using the formal Talent Management process for identified talent and an informal process for remaining roles.
  • With the support from Human Capital, interview and recruit direct reports and provide support to them during the recruitment of their teams on request.
  • Ensure that managers create effective workforce plans and recruitment demand plans within their areas.
  • Act as an escalation point for all grievances raised in the division.
  • Develop appropriate Employee Engagement Survey action items together with the management team of the business unit and ensure that items are executed.
  • A post graduate/ (NQF 9) qualification
  • Registration as a CA(SA) with SAICA
  • Management/Leadership Development Programme – will be an added advantage.
  • At least ten (10) years’ post articles experience managing finance environment, of which five (5) years’ experience is at an Executive or Senior Management level
  • Valid driver’s licence
