MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To Produce and Present Xitsonga Audio News and Current Affairs content and programmes as part of a team that broadcasts, publishes and posts newsworthy, compelling, accurate and fair stories for its target audience.
 
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Initiate, produce, broadcast, publish and post Xitsonga News and Current Affairs content as assigned.
  • Produce and Present Audio Current Affairs programmes, Special Programmes / Broadcasts and Outside Broadcasts.
  • Identify, initiate, brainstorm, research, plan, record, produce, broadcast, podcast, publish and post Current Affairs stories and material that are newsworthy, compelling, accurate and fair for the target audience.
  • Plan and deliver the content of identified Current Affairs stories and programmes.

  • Interpret and analyse the undercurrents in and subtexts of stories.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • National Diploma / Degree in Journalism or Media Studies or any related equivalent qualifications (NQF 6 / 7)
  • 4 years’ experience in the radio news and journalism environment
  • Must be fluent in reading, speaking and writing Xitsonga with a good command of English
  • Have a good understanding of social media and its usefulness as a journalistic tool.
  • Keep abreast of news, current affairs, trends and developments.

  • BUSINESS OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY
  • Perform daily reconciliations to verify booked spots against broadcast logs, including investigating non-flighted spots.
  • Export as-run logs to enable automated reconciliation processes.

  • Generate and submit exception reports for all discrepancies to Airtime Management.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

To manage an innovative and cross team to upgrade, converge and enhance technological digitisation for Radio and TV Broadcast Systems infrastructure by developing new innovations with efficient and effective workflows to modernise and enable technologies, processes, and services to evolve the SABC.
 
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
 
DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF STRATEGY
Development of Implementation Plans
  • Provide (innovative) submissions for input into the Broadcast Technology Strategy which is in alignment with the Corporate Plan and Target Operating Model.
  • Provide technical research and solutions for incorporation into OPEX and CAPEX business plans which is supported by research and\ or statistical data.

DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF STRATEGY

  • Monthly controlled digital equipment and systems failover tests to promote reliable system resilience and ensure full functional, reliable and backup recovery is sustained at all times.
  • Document all faults together with methods of troubleshooting and possible resolutions to create a fault knowledgebase for use by the team.
  • Have the ability to conceptualise the fault or requirement in a region (including Auckland Park) and offer sound technical advice until the fault is resolved or requirement is realised.
  • Prevent re-occurring issues and workflow processes with the design of innovative solutions through engagement with users, technicians and the Original Equipment Manufacturer OEM.
  • Ensure compliance of maintenance and system upgrades with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications and end user requirements.
  • Deliver tasks assigned through SLA engagements effectively, efficiently and as per client’s requirements.
  • Monthly report of maintenance, system integrity and health of broadcast systems.
  • Annual review and update of all technical documentation, including, SOP’s, User Guides, System workflow diagrams and technical drawings.
  • Ensure system security with updated antivirus definitions and patch management.
  • Analyse and design new or enhanced business processes through requirements definition, information gathering and constant documentation.
  • Ensure processes are in place to implement the Disaster Recovery Plan which is in line with the approved Risk Management Plan.
  • Be a point of escalation 24/7 for system administrators on standby.
  • Perform analysis of fault and standby reports to identify and address non-compliance.
  • Continued stakeholder engagement to document system functional requirements for translation into Request for Information in order to provide stakeholder with a conceptual design and provisional costing.
  • Drive all research activities on new software features to improve system efficiency and user experience.
  • Research (vendor manual or engagement with vendor or OEM) and trouble shoot re-occurring system faults until a solution is found.
  • Collaborate with system administrators of other systems (News or Sales scheduling systems) to ensure their upgrades are successful whilst minimising playing downtime.
 
GOVERNANCE RISK AND COMPLIANCE
  • Provide technical specifications for the procurement of correct hardware or software in line with customer requirements and Company Procurement policy and procedures.

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

  • Train, coach or mentor senior system administrators and system administrators on an ongoing basis to meet individual team member needs.
  • Prepare overtime schedules in consultation with team and submit monthly overtime sheets for payment.
  • Contribute and assist in some managerial / supervision activities (Ability to act as Manager in Managers absence, represent depart at required meetings).
  • Provide informal training on the Broadcast System to users and technical colleagues in order for them to perform their job functions.
  • Coach and Mentor other system administrators with faults or tasks that they are unable to resolve on their own.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • 3 Year National Diploma (S4) or National Diploma Computer Studies with Information Systems (NQF6) or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Light Current).
  • Minimum 7 years technical experience within the IT broadcast environment or Commercial of The Shelf Systems with at least 5 years’ experience at a system administrator level.
  • Driver’s license- Advantageous.
  • IT Knowledge (including Database Administration and IT security) is essential. Must also display proficiency in MS Office, i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point & Visio.

Main Purpose of the Position:
To lead, guide and provide editorial direction to the Sesotho Audio News / Radio Bulletin and Production team with the Bulletin Editor in providing depth of coverage to current issues by investigating and exploring angles of news stories, developments and trends.
 
Key Accountabilities:
  • Lead effective, efficient and creative brainstorming sessions for Sesotho Audio / Radio News Bulletins and content selection in accordance with SABC News and Current Affairs’ editorial objectives and the public mandate.
  • Compile a newsworthy list / running order of bulletin stories in consultation with the bulletin editor/s.
  • Correct linguistic, grammatical and factual errors.
  • Attend daily and weekly national diary / editorial meetings with or at the request of line manager/s.
  • Determine and assign stories, and continuously give direction to the team/s.
  • Ensure that all stories adhere to the highest quality of editorial and language standards.
  • Continuously follow-up on the progress and angles of stories until delivered for broadcasting, posting and publishing.
  • Research, analyse and understand the undercurrents, subtexts and nuances in news stories, developments and trends to determine their importance, relevance and impact on the target audience.
  • Determine different news angles and updates for each story to pursue for broadcasting, posting and publishing.
  • Ensure adequate planning of bulletins.
  • Write, translate, voice, edit and read (present) quality stories in accordance with all platform requirements.

  • Write and produce strong headlines / teasers with defining meaningful and memorable soundbites / audio content.
  • Print scripts and running orders according to the required bulletin structure and deadlines.
  • Engage in, co-ordinate and check online / digital / social media activity and content to enhance bulletins.
  • Perform and assign tasks to Bulletin Writers / Readers (social media, follow-ups and breaking stories etc).
  • Continuously review bulletins for improvements.
  • Alert Bulletin Editor/s about live interviews and breaking news for consideration.
  • Follow-up on tipoffs, leads and stories.
  • Consult and engage on stories daily and in advance of known news events, including briefing and debriefing sessions.
  • Promote good professional and interpersonal relationships and maintain a productive environment.
  • Contribute to compliance reports and listener complaints within required deadlines.

Requirements:
  • National diploma / degree (NQF 6 / 7) in journalism, media studies or relevant equivalent qualification.
  • 6 years’ proven experience in writing, translating, producing, voicing and reading News Bulletins and Current Affairs programmes.
  • Sesotho proficiency and fluency, including exceptional reading, writing, translating and speaking / presenting skills to optimise impact of editorial content.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Good, clear broadcast voice.
  • Strong news sense, editorial judgement, general knowledge and attention to detail.
  • Professional communication and interaction with all stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of current trends in the social, economic and political environment.
