MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To deliver incisive Ndebele public service Audio News Bulletins and content in accordance with SABC News’ editorial objectives and mandate.
 
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Write and read (present) Ndebele Audio News content, as assigned.
  • Write, voice, translate, cut soundbites, as well as package stories when required.
  • Deliver news bulletins within set durations and on time.
  • Ensure that stories are newsworthy, compelling, accurate, balanced and fair.
  • Adhere to the designated language requirements and ensure that language usage is accurate and formal.
  • Interpret and analyse the undercurrents in and subtexts of stories.
  • Conduct field, archival and other research, as required.

  • Engage professionally with the target audience to promote and uphold SABC News’ integrity and to enhance News and Current Affairs, including on social media.
  • Use multimedia platforms to promote Audio News content and ensure adherence to digital news / media guidelines.

  • Adhere to the South Africa’s Constitution, all laws, ICASA’s licence conditions and regulations, the BCCSA and Press Council codes and rulings, the SABC Editorial Policies, News Style-Guide and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
 
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Proficient and fluent in Ndebele (read, write, speak and translate)
  • National Diploma / Degree in Journalism or Media Studies or equivalent qualifications (NQF 6)
  • 4 years’ proven experience in the news environment
  • Excellent news sense and attention to detail
  • Exceptional writing, reading / presenting and translation skills
  • Good and clear broadcast voice
  • Good understanding and use of social media as a journalistic tool
  • Staying abreast of news and current affairs and other related developments
  • Sound understanding of current social, economic and political trends

JOB PURPOSE
The Ad Operations Manager is responsible for leading and optimising the entire digital advertising delivery ecosystem for SABC - including direct-sold campaigns, campaigns executed via external digital sales partners (e.g., MediaMark, MediaNorth, Arise/365 Digital), and programmatic campaigns via SSPs/DSPs (Castoola, Magnite, Adform, etc.).
This role ensures operational excellence, yield maximisation, governance and revenue assurance, partner enablement, and continuous process improvement in a multi-platform, multi-channel environment.
 
C. MAIN OBJECTIVES (KEY PERFORMANCE AREA)
JOB OUTPUTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION
           
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATOR
DELIVERY LEADERSHIP & CAMPAIGN EXECUTION       
•Oversee the setup, trafficking, QA, pacing and delivery for all campaigns (direct, partner, programmatic).
●Lead the Ad Ops team in ensuring campaigns launch on time, hit targets, and meet quality standards.
●Resolve high-level trafficking or delivery issues and ensure escalation processes are in place. 
 
PROGRAMMATIC + YIELD STRATEGY        
●Develop and execute programmatic strategy: deal types (PMP/PG), floor price policy, yield optimisation across SSPs/DSPs.
●Monitor supply path, auction dynamics (Magnite, Adform), fill rates, eCPM/net revenue by channel/device.
●Implement pricing controls (UPR/floor), segment inventory (geo, device, format) for increased yield.
            
GOVERNANCE, REPORTING & COMPLIANCE    
•Ensure all campaigns are compliant with PFMA, internal policies, partner contracts and ad-tech vendor SLAs.
•Lead reconciliation between ad server/SSP /finance (SAP) to verify delivery vs bookings/invoicing.
•Consolidate reporting across Castoola, Magnite, Adform, and partner systems for unified dashboards.
•Maintain audit-ready documentation and reporting.      
 
PARTNER & STAKEHOLDER COLLABORATION   
•Serve as the operational link between SABC and its digital sales partners and tech vendors.
•Standardise operational workflows, traction, reporting templates for partners.
•Conduct partner performance reviews, SLA monitoring, training/adoption of tools.    
 
TEAM LEADERSHIP & PROCESS IMPROVEMENT
•Lead and develop the Ad Ops team (Executives, Specialists), build capability.
•Identify process inefficiencies, implement best practices / automation within ad ops workflows.
•Drive continuous improvement in campaign delivery, tech stack, and reporting.
             
D.  INHERENT REQUIREMENT
FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
•NQF 6/7 diploma / degree or equivalent in Marketing, Digital Business, Media, or similar field.
•Additional certification/training in AdTech, Programmatic Advertising or Digital Media preferred.
 
EXPERIENCE:             
•5-8 years in digital ad operations / campaign management / programmatic environments, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
•Demonstrated experience with ad serving platforms (e.g., Castoola, Google Ad Manager, Xandr, Freewheel), SSPs/DSPs (Magnite, Adform, The Trade Desk, DV360).
•Experience in managing yield, pricing/floor strategy, partner/vendor relationships, and cross-functional teams.
•Proven experience in troubleshooting, trafficking, and reporting across multiple systems.
•Prior exposure to working with external sales partners or agencies is an advantage.
 
KNOWLEDGE:             
•Strong understanding of the digital advertising ecosystem: ad servers, SSPs, DSPs, PMP/PG deal types, real-time bidding, inventory management.

Main purpose of the position
To grow sustainable SABC revenue and market share through the sale of News & Sports focused advertising, sponsorship and associated products, services and solutions across its portfolio of linear television channels and radio stations, digital media assets and SABC Plus. This will be achieved through leading, in a disciplined, professional and performance-focused manner, a high-performing national sales team focused on News & Sport, with responsibility for building commercial relationships, identifying advertising & Sponsorship opportunities and meeting client’s advertising / sponsorship needs and requirements.
 
Key accountabilities
  • In close collaboration with the News & Sports divisions, develop comprehensive segment-focused sales strategies and plans, in alignment with the SABC Strategy & Corporate Plan as well as the divisional News & Sports strategies, to achieve revenue targets and grow market share within the News & Sports segments of the broadcast media marketplace.
  • Develop News & Sports-focused sales strategies and plans to take advantage of opportunities provided by targeted sporting events and codes as well as significant current and future events of national interest.
  • Evaluate progress on the implementation of strategies and plans and course-correct accordingly should targets not be met.
  • Lead and manage a team of sales professionals, in a disciplined, structured and focused manner to achieve and exceed set sales targets within the N&S segments of the broadcast media marketplace.

Qualifications and experience

  • 8–10 years of progressive, successful sales leadership and management within the media sales industry is a strong advantage.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience of working with News and Sports-related advertising / sponsorship media sales at a senior level.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3 year National Diploma (S4/T3) in Electrical Engineering (Light Current, Communications, Computer Studies or Information Technology) (NQF6).

  EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in technical broadcast environment, of the 7 years a minimum of 3 years as Senior Technician level in technical maintenance, system support of broadcasting equipment and client services within a Broadcast Environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Sound Engineering Certificate (1 year & above) or Film/Video Technology or Relevant Qualification
  • Sound Engineering Diploma (will add advantage)
  • Driver’s License: C1 (Code 10) with PDP
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in broadcast environment, minimum of 2 years as Senior Operator level with relevant experience in Digital Sound & Video within live, production and post production environment.
